The countrys largest classic car hire company owned and run by a former senior manager at one of Yorkshires biggest civil engineering companies – is expanding its operation into Harrogate.
Graham Eason and his wife Janine began Great Escape classic car hire after purchasing a Jensen Interceptor and Alfa Romeo Spider as a way to unwind from the rigors of their nine to five jobs.
This hobby turned into a business when Graham was made redundant and now the company boasts a fleet of more than 50 vehicles, including classic cars such as Jaguars, Rolls Royces and Morris Minors, operating from locations in Worcester, Suffolk and Dorset.
Next month, (April) Graham will open his fourth base in the North Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate, which is the next stage of his business plan to have bases nationwide.
This fleet will initially boast an Inspector Morse Mk2 Jaguar, Morris Minor Convertible, Porsche 929, Classic Mini Cooper, Jaguar XJ6 Coupe and a VW Golf GTI Mk1
Graham said: We decided to expand to Harrogate as it is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is the perfect location. The Yorkshire Dales are just a few miles away and the only way to truly experience them is behind the wheel of a classic car.
From what was initially a weekend escape for the pair of us, we have now expanded the business to become the countrys largest classic car hire fleet.
Our growth has been built on offering choice and total transparency when it comes to booking our cars. We look for cars that we know people want to hire and theyre not always the obvious choices.
The price on our website is the price you get. There are no hidden extras and the price is for a full 24 hours for everyday you book and includes unlimited mileage, insurance and breakdown.
Owning a classic car is expensive and hard work. At Great Escape we give people the chance to own a classic car for a day or weekend and make the experience easy, enjoyable and more importantly affordable.
Graham added: The recession has also seen more people holiday in the UK, and this staycation market has benefited us greatly. Our collection contains a range of cars that suit a variety of occasions birthdays, anniversaries and weddings.
We also get a considerable amount of people booking cars from their decade be it the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. And of course theres no shortage for those who want a James Bond experience behind the wheel of an Aston Martin.
And for Coronation Street fans we even have a Morris Traveller, the exact same model as the one owned by Roy and Hayley Cropper.
Great Escape is not just about hiring a car, it is about the whole experience and our service offers advice on locations for the perfect drive in your area and how to make the most of your classic car experience.
