Celebrate the Efforts of Yoga Gurus on World Teacher’s Day 2020

As we celebrate World Teacher’s Day on October 5, it is relevant to remember the efforts of our Yoga Gurus. They are not just great fitness experts but also our mentors for life. This year their immense contribution to the field of health should be recognized worldwide.

The World Teacher’s Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers. The event acknowledges the dedication, guidance, and responsibilities of teachers. Students from all over the world pay their respects and praise to their teachers for inspiring them.

This year’s theme for World Teacher’s Day is “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future.” This is an apt theme as lots of teachers and students were affected due to the widespread transmission of the COVID pandemic. Even in such difficult conditions, teachers continued their work online with complete devotion.

Along with everyone contributing their services, yoga gurus paved the way for holistic health through online yoga classes. The participation of Arhanta Yoga Ashram has been especially of an immense support for many yoga students. Arhanta Yoga Ashram is an international yoga school with yoga ashrams in India and Netherlands. Starting online yoga classes during the sudden surge in the number of deaths due to the pandemic was the only alternative that proved effective. Multiple benefits of Yoga, balance the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga fulfilled the demand for fighting viral diseases by improving the immune system. The practice of yoga and meditation also helps in keeping the mind relaxed during anxious times.

The challenge of restoring health made yoga teachers of Arhanta Yoga Ashram even more determined to fulfill their duties. Providing online yoga classes brought a complete lifestyle change. This was the beginning of a new education system made possible with the help of technology. Online yoga classes combine the ancient practice of yoga with the digital medium. It also brings the possibility of quality yoga education and expert guidance to the doorstep. Bringing yoga practices to the home opened an opportunity for a new family health program.

The internationally accredited Yoga Alliance authorized the registration of the Yoga Teacher Training Course (YTTC) through online certification. This allowed yoga teachers to reach serious students who wanted to pursue yoga as a profession. This also brought many new students to explore the options of online yoga. It included working professionals, housewives, school or college students, and elders as well. There was an increased awareness of the mindful habits promoted by yoga. People started focusing on a healthy and simple diet.

The format of teaching online was a new challenge for Arhanta Yoga teachers. The recommended texts were provided through email. The continuous queries of students were resolved with yoga guru’s commitment. A stronger connection was built between the teacher and the student. New ways of maintaining self-discipline at home were invented.

This new wave of teaching and learning yoga was made possible with the help of our yoga gurus. The growing interest in yoga has shifted from being just another yoga trend. Now, the regular practice of yoga is a necessity to improve the modern lifestyle.

As you celebrate World Teacher’s Day 2020, remember these lines by the famous yoga guru, Swami Sivananda Saraswati.

“Let each man take the path according to his capacity, understanding, and temperament. His true guru will meet him along that path”.
