Car Insurance New Warning for Driving When Feeling Unwell
A leading car insurance provider implemented this study as a response to criticism in a Government-based report which highlighted the lack of care doctors and healthcare professionals showed towards patients that were too ill to drive.
It is a worrying trend that almost a fifth of UK drivers know of someone to drive whilst feeling unwell. Poor medical health can lead to inadvertent accidents and therefore increase the overall cost of car insurance premiums. Drivers should take heed of the latest warnings and only drive when concentration and health is acceptable.
A spokesperson for the car insurance provider who conducted the research said: The survey results suggest that up to six million drivers may drive when they know they shouldnt for medical reasons. Drivers need to be aware of the risks that they are taking and the consequences of being caught.
The research for the Government also illustrates that much more needs to be done by the healthcare profession in terms of advising patients correctly when they should not drive.
Employers need to be more vigilant in checking driving licences and carrying out Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency checks on staff who may have had licences revoked for medical reasons or they might be liable.
