Economy Car Hire, which offers all-inclusive prices with a zero insurance excess which negates the need to buy expensive collision damage and theft loss waivers, has made the move as the first step in introducing more green vehicles into its fleet across Europe and beyond.
The company now offers Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrids from Gatwick and Heathrow airports. All of these vehicles are exempt from the London congestion charge.
Now the company is working with its suppliers to make these kinds of vehicles available further afield.
"People are increasingly looking to minimise the environmental impact of their travel," said Economy Car Hire’s managing director Rory Sexton. "Sometimes car hire is the only viable option for families travelling with luggage, so we are doing what we can to introduce an element of environmental responsibility into our business.
"The introduction of hybrids into UK fleet is only the start – we are now talking to our European suppliers to try and introduce the concept right across the continent."
A week’s hire of a Toyota Prius from Gatwick Airport in November costs £241 (based on w/c31st January, with a 40-year-old driver).
Economy Car Hire’s prices are all-inclusive, with no insurance excess (hence no collision damage waiver necessary), unlimited mileage, free additional driver, no airport surcharges, and included theft loss waiver.
