Breast Friends Northamptonshire were named as the winners of the Community Group/Organisation of the Year at the Northampton Leisure Trust Sports Awards, held at The Guildhall in Northampton on October 16th 2019.
The aware reflects recognition for the charities work in helping to improve access to physical activity and sport for people that have been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis in the Northamptonshire region.
Founder of Breast Friends Northamptonshire’s, Leonie Heard said “We are absolutely delighted to collect this award as it reflects the very important work that is done by our volunteers, supporters, committee and trustees. We would like to thank Nottingham Community Housing Association for sponsoring the award, along with everyone who has supported us in this important work – in particular, 5K Your Way/Northampton Park Run, Over Power Northampton, Aligned Pilates, Northampton Town Football Club and Northampton Half Marathon.”
The local charity provides practical and emotional support for people that are based in the Northamptonshire and surrounding regions that are affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. The charity offers support from diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment and also for people living with secondary breast cancer.
Breast Friends Northamptonshire aims to improve participation in physical activity by organising well-being events which give members the opportunity to participate in activities they may not otherwise have the chance to do to improve both physical and mental health, whilst also benefitting from peer support from others who have been through or are going through similar treatments.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Breast Friends Northamptonshire are promoting breast cancer awareness by holding events with local businesses and events, as well as sharing the message on various social media platforms
