Russell Hobbs needs your help in creating back to basics guide
We are a nation of irritated ironers. New research out today reveals one in five of us have either bribed someone or feigned injury to get out of the nations most dreaded chore, with 60 per cent admitting to ruining clothes because they are so angry about having to get the board out.
The study of 1,000 consumers, carried out by Russell Hobbs to develop its new easyfill iron, found two thirds (63 per cent) of Brits hate ironing, with 14 per cent preferring to pay someone else to do the dirty work.
And when we do finally get the board out, it seems we dont know even know how to iron our clothes correctly! The most common mistake is using the iron on the wrong setting, but thats to be expected when 48 per cent of us confess we dont read the instruction manual.
Shirts seem the most problematic garment to iron (43 per cent) followed by bed linen (23 per cent). Nearly a third of us admit we cheat when ironing – the most popular short cut is only ironing the collar and front of a shirt when wearing a jacket.
Passing the time
More than a fifth of people (22 per cent) iron items just before they need them, but 43 per cent prefer a weekly ironing session, with the majority (40 per cent) choosing to do it in front of their favourite TV programme to help alleviate the boredom. When asked what music would help with ironing, nearly half (45 per cent) chose rock and pop, with the Queen classic I want to Break Free voted the top motivational song. Only one in ten prefer complete silence to focus on the task in hand.
