10ticks have today released their new and exciting Action Maths resources that incorporate physical exercise into mathematics. The Action Maths programme has been designed to raise attainment by encouraging students to practice maths concepts whilst engaging in fun, pulse-racing activities that keep them interested and motivated. It combines the benefits of active maths and of exercise to create a new educational superfood, Action Maths.
10ticks, are market leaders in maths education in the UK and around the world. They have developed this new and exciting addition to their existing resource bank to make practical and effective use of the direct correlation between an increase in grades and the amount of physical exercise undertaken.
Benefits of 10ticks Action Maths
• Pupils become more engaged
• Helps improve retention of information
• Exercises both the mind and the body
• Increased attention span and attainment
Cathy Smith, teacher at St Marks RC Primary School, who has trialled the Action Maths materials said “There is a wealth of different activities that are easy to differentiate for all the class. The kids love to do maths outside and action maths has got them laughing, counting, calculating & estimating. I shall definitely be incorporating lots of the 10ticks Action Maths ideas into my maths planning”
“The 10ticks mission is to make mathematics simple, fun and fascinating.” says Ian Fisher, Managing Director of 10ticks. “Being physically active can increase attention spans, reduce stress and help students to learn. Certain kinds of movement stimulate the release of dopamine and noradrenaline in the brain, which are important in learning. These benefits carry on throughout the day, supporting other subjects. With the increased amount of time required to deliver the greater volume of maths content found in the new curriculum, time is now at a premium and to get extra maths into the school timetable is a bonus for any teacher.”
