Visit Newquay all year round with Cornwall winter festivals and discount hotels

Posted 28th December 2009.

Whether it’s January or June, glorious Newquay always has something to offer and IKnow-Cornwall.co.uk is a fantastic portal for all things going on in the region, from attractions to accommodation.

Imagine an exhilarating cliff top walk on a crisp winter’s morning, the sea foaming and seething below, huge surf pounding the dramatic coastline. After you’ve blown the cobwebs away, why not head for one of Newquay’s many cafes or resturants for a warming drink and a bite to eat? Or check out the Lane Theatre, Newquay’s renowned playhouse for an evening production.

Newquay makes for a great short break destination in the quieter months – a chance to chill out, recharge the batteries, check out the local farmer’s markets or winter festivals and just wind down in beautiful surroundings – and there’s never a shortage of Newquay hotels and guest houses at any time of year.

Winter visitors to Newquay have always enjoyed the winter storm watching on Cornwall’s North Atlantic Coast. Three thousand miles of open ocean stretches from Cornwall to Newfoundland and the winter storms create spectacular sights all along the north coasts. Watching and enjoying these storms and their aftermath in those typically sunny and bright clear winter days in Cornwall is an experience enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.

The storm watching season runs from November to February. Although a relatively new tourism phenomenon, locals have been watching, bracing themselves and surfing in the tail end of winter storms here for many years.

Cornwall hotels continue their open-door policy throughout the winter months, and have some cracking New Year deals on offer for those willing to brave the elements.

Of course, many of the summer attractions are still open in winter with the likes of the Eden Project, Paradise Park, and St. Michael’s Mount Marazion still going strong – all within a short distance of tourist hotspot St Ives – and like Newquay, St Ives hotels are never short in number.
