Swans4Cancer returns to The Gnoll after last year’s memorable outing

Swans4Cancer

Posted 11th June 2015.

Swans4Cancer is a charity set up by Mark Beevers following the death of his father Phil to Brain Cancer. The management committee is made up of Mark, his wife Maria and a group of friends who have all been affected by this death or the passing of their own family members. Phil was a lifetime Swansea City supporter and spent over 15 years working as a steward on match days. For this reason, the football theme has been chosen to honour his memory on two separate dates.

On 17th May 2014 a charity football match took place at The Gnoll in Neath between a Swansea Legends XI and a Swans4Cancer XI. There were many well known ex Swans involved; Roger Freestone, John Cornforth, Chris Todd, Jason Price and Guillem Bauza to name just a few with Biran Flynn managing them.

The event was so popular with fans and players alike that we were asked to make it an annual event. We are therefore holding the second annual Swans4Cancer match, once again at The Gnoll, on 27th June with a 7pm Kick Off. Tickets are priced at £3 per adult and £1 per child and can be purchased via www.swans4cancer.info/tickets. In addition there are a limited number of hospitality tickets available for £20 which includes entry to the match, as well as a two course meal and pre match entertainment.

Many players from last year’s match have once again committed to take part once again with the likes of James Thomas, Andy McFarlane, Carl Heggs and Kwame Ampadu joining us also, under the management this year of John Hollins. The Swans4Cancer XI will once again be managed by Swansea City Vice Chairman, Leigh Dineen.

Last year we raised over £5,000 for cancer charities and once again this year, all proceeds from this and any other events held in the financial year ending April 2016 will be split equally between the following charities:

Macmillan

Maggies

We are officially supported by Swansea City FC and are looking to grow local and national awareness of this event.
Not only is the match itself going to once again benefit some
fantastic causes and be a great spectacle to local fans, it will also be of interest to newer fans of the Swans around the world, who just a few short years ago may not even have been aware of the club’s existence and a chance to see some of the stars of the club’s history in action.
