All football matches planned for Sandwell parks and open spaces this weekend have been cancelled.

The council took the decision because of the forecast for snow and icy weather and the risk of frozen pitches.

Cabinet member for neighbourhood services Councillor Derek Rowley said it was the second week running that matches had been cancelled but it was a necessary step to avoid anyone getting injured because of the hard ground.

He said: “Also it is best to give teams as much notice as possible.”
