Following on from the success www.cruise.co.uk is looking to extend the offer by giving users the opportunity to choose an additional two books from the series: Caribbean Ports of Call or European Ports of Call. Both books have a retail value of £13.99 and are a must for anyone looking to make the most of their cruise holiday. The latest version of the Complete Guide to European Cruises will also still be offered as part of the three book option.

Each book contains over 400 pages information for those who are avid cruisers or new to the fastest growing area of travel. Each guide offers everything from planning a cruise through to sections on what to do in the popular ports from museum visits to wine tastings to shopping in local markets, as well as lists of restaurants and attractions. They are the must have accompaniment to any cruise. “The Fodor’s Complete Guide to European Cruises was a resounding success last year we now have over 32,000 people who have left their comments on the site. We know from feedback that our contributors appreciate the gift we give them each year in return for their time and opinions. These two new guides as well as the 2012 edition of the ‘Complete Guide to European Cruises’ will ensure that users continue to keep coming back with new reviews to update and refresh the UK’s most popular cruise web site,” said Seamus Conlon.

“The Fodor’s Guides are an ideal complement for any cruise holiday. Many of our reviewers are independent travellers and appreciate the guides which can help them maximise their time in port. This initiative will only help to strengthen our position as one of the UK’s leading social media sites.”

Tigers in the wild:
To experience the wildlife of India, Cox & Kings recommends a visit to two of the country’s finest national parks in central India: Bandhavgarh and Kanha.

Bandhavgarh is located in the heart of India and has one of the highest densities of tiger populations in the country. The reserve features large grassland meadows that offer good chances of tiger sightings and the park is home to a variety of other mammals, including leopards, Indian bison, hyenas and wild dogs, as well as an estimated 150 bird species

Kanha is one of India’s largest national parks. Its lush bamboo forests and green meadows provided the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book. Along with elusive Bengal tigers, an incredible 22 animal species are regularly spotted here, including leopards the highly endangered hardground barasinghas, a type of deer and the unusual three-striped palm squirrel. With a staggering 200 recorded bird species, Kanha is also a bird watcher’s paradise.

Bustling Bollywood:
The west of India is dominated by the vibrant city of Mumbai, considered by many to be the cultural capital of the country and where visitors can explore Bollywood, the many designer shops or experience the city’s charismatic street life. Located to the north, are the Ellora Caves, hugely impressive Indian rock-cut architecture and the Ajanta Caves, masterpieces of Buddhist religious art.

Himalaya:
The enchanting beauty, bracing climate and vibrant greenery of the Himalaya make this one of the most striking places in India and a soothing antidote to the hustle, bustle and heat of some of India’s livelier cities. The region’s vast panoramas are dotted with villages and hill stations and mountain slopes covered with rhododendron and teak forests. The famous towns of Shimla, also known as the summer capital of “British India” with its graceful colonial buildings and promenades, and Dharmsala are both set against the stunning Himalayan backdrop and are perfect bases for walking tours and exploration of a very different side of India.

Charming Kerala:
Beautiful and tranquil, the southern Indian state of Kerala offers travellers another completely different experience and is characterised by meandering rivers, rice fields, spice plantations, verdant hills and palm-fringed beaches. This gently paced region includes some of the most captivating areas, including the charming port city of Kochi (Cochin) and backwaters explored best by boat for a wonderful glimpse into sleepy villages and rural life.

Southern India also includes some superb temple architecture, particularly in Tamil Nadu, including the Meenakshi Temple at Madurai and the shore temples of Mahabalipuram, both Unesco-protected sites.

Taj Mahal:
The Taj Mahal is India’s most famous monument; built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in loving memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Located in Agra, it is widely recognised as one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture; a style that combines elements of Persian, Turkish and Indian architectural styles. In 1983 the Taj Mahal became a Unesco World Heritage Site. While the domed white mausoleum is the most familiar image of the Taj Mahal, it is actually an integrated and beautiful complex of buildings. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen. Many first-time visitors to India head for Agra and the ‘Golden Triangle’, where in a week you can see the Taj Mahal, explore Delhi, both ancient and modern, and discover the beautiful forts and palaces of Jaipur.

Cox & Kings, the luxury holidays specialist, was established in 1758 and is built on high quality service and attention to detail that enables the company to continue to flourish as an independent tour operator, with operations in London, the US, Japan, Australia and throughout India. Cox & Kings organises luxury holidays to India, Latin America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific and the Caribbean.

NOTE TO EDITORS:

Cox & Kings is the world’s longest established travel company. Its history stretches back more than 250 years to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed regimental agent to the Footguards (later the Grenadier Guards). The company’s fortunes grew hand in hand with the British empire and by the early 20th century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces and as a shipping agent. In 1922 Cox & Co merged with the Henry S King bank, which had strong connections with India. The bank became part of Lloyds and the shipping agency grew separately, evolving into the modern travel company.

That means that people are planning even further ahead for their stag weekends than they used to which hints at a changing nature of the industry. The average spend on the weekends has also shifted up, from £1,550 for the whole group, to £1,850.

Managing Director of The Stag Company, Rob Hill, has overseen this massive shift in the Brighton based company’s trading. He explains:

“It used to be that stag weekends were seen as a last minute affair, an afterthought for the best man and this would usually result in a few beers down the pub and a visit to a strip club.

“Now, it seems that men are giving themselves more time to pay for their stag weekends, which means that they can spread the cost over a longer period, to make sure that last weekend of freedom is something to be remembered. “Now it appears that groups are being more elaborate and the best man is growing more ambitious as the variety of activities and destinations increases.”

It’s also believed that the UK’s plunge into recession might have had a part to play in this shift, Hill posits:
“This could be down to economic factors – perhaps belts have been tightened since 2008′s credit crunch and men are using the stag do as an excuse for a blow out.”

This increase in the average budget for a stag weekend has seen the industry grow from being something that was quite small and difficult to find unless you were specifically looking for it, to an industry that picks up coverage in some of the country’s biggest newspapers and magazines.

It has also allowed companies like The Stag Company to take on more members of staff, which Rob Hill believes has been instrumental in the increase in company turnover:

“Whatever the reasons, this changing nature of the business has allowed us to expand and take on some great new talent in our HR, marketing, sales and PR departments.

“In 2011, we have 20 people working here and now there are 50 – we believe in investing in our staff and it’s a belief that has really helped our business to grow.”

ENDS

Using “India” as inspiration and theme and using a small budget donated by Cox & Kings, six UK interiors, home and style bloggers were challenged to make over one room each in their home.

As well as keeping readers up to date with posts on their progress, ‘before’ and ‘after’ photographs of each of the rooms were uploaded onto Cox & Kings UK Facebook page, where voting for the winning room took place by fans and followers ‘liking’ the pictures. The Cox & Kings UK team and bloggers used a ‘hashtag’ on Twitter to communicate their progress and promote their own entries to the competition on Facebook.

Mike Pullman, online marketing manager says: “We have been thrilled with the response to our Indian inspired interiors challenge. As well the innovative and creative room make-overs from some of the country’s best interiors blogs, the response from our Cox & Kings UK fans on Facebook and Twitter exceeded our expectations, with more than 1,000 votes cast on Facebook and more than 80 tweets during the four week long voting period. However, we couldn’t have brought this campaign to life without the incredible support from the bloggers we worked with on this project, so our thanks go out to all of them.”

The bloggers involved in the challenge were:

Thatsyummymummy.net

Cosyhomeblog.com

Homegems.net

TheStylePAatHome.com

MaryPoppins-HomeSweetHome.blogspot.co.uk

Bibbity-Bob.blogspot.co.uk

The blogger with the most popular make-over was MaryPoppins-HomeSweetHome who won a weekend break to Tallinn from Cox & Kings.

Cox & Kings, the luxury holidays specialist, was established in 1758 and is built on high quality service and attention to detail that enables the company to continue to flourish as an independent tour operator, with operations in London, the US, Japan, Australia and throughout India. Cox & Kings organises escorted small-group tours and private tailor made holidays in the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific and the Caribbean.

ENDS

Note to Editors

Cox & Kings is the world’s longest established travel company. Its history stretches back more than 250 years to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed regimental agent to the Footguards (later the Grenadier Guards). The company’s fortunes grew hand in hand with the British empire and by the early 20th century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces and as a shipping agent. In 1922 Cox & Co merged with the Henry S King bank, which had strong connections with India. The bank became part of Lloyds and the shipping agency grew separately, evolving into the modern travel company.

A new awarded chef will take over every weekend for 4 weekends in July and August, satisfying the palettes of the most demanding guests. This summer Domes of Elounda, a 5-star resort in Elounda Crete, presents the revolutionary Slow Food Celebration.

Slow food is an idea that links the pleasure of food with the commitment to community and the environment. With respect to the cultural and nutritional heritage of Crete and Mediterranean cuisine as well as the natural resources of the region, local village chefs as well as famous Greek and Italian chefs will turn the preparation of their dishes into a ritual… closely monitoring the entire process, starting from the growth and cultivation of the raw materials and following them all the way to the dish!

For the third consecutive year, Domes of Elounda invites all food adventurers and overall travel enthusiasts to join the festival and savor! In 2010 during the First Annual Festival De la Gastronomie, 7 awarded chefs such as Marco Garfagnini, Georgios Troumouches, Thodoros Kassavetis, Dimitrios Dimitriadis, prepared and served 50 epicurean dishes for 700 guests with culinary demonstrations spread over a period of 4 weeks.

In 2011 a joint degustation was organized during the Second Annual Festival De la Gastronomie. Infamous Chefs, namely Philippe Geneletti, Tomomi Ohashi, Marco Garfagnini, Emanuele Cappellini, Yves Mattagne and Franck Putelat, discussed their food culture and prepared over 50 regional specialties; showcasing secret recipes and introducing their food philosophies to 700 guests, who took zestful pleasure in the inclusive experience.

About Domes of Elounda
Domes of Elounda reinvents Elounda restoring its lost principal of exclusivity. The essence of the Mediterranean, the culture, the cuisine, the temperament, the architecture, are holistically captured in the form of a luxury resort consisting for the first time of only suites & villas that provide a small number of exclusive guests with all the amenities of a resort, while offering an abundance of living space, privacy and extraordinary service. Minimally interfering with the natural habitat and harmonically blended with their surroundings, domed structures with breathtaking ocean views emerge from the ground, respecting its natural contours and creating a Mediterranean settlement on a hillside of flower gardens, stone pathways, and olive groves just a stone’s throw away from the Venetian castle on the island of Spinalonga, the setting for Victoria Hislop’s bestselling novel “The Island”.
