Performa Sports’ release on the App Store coincides with the release of Brad Pitt’s new movie, Moneyball, about a baseball coach whose pioneering use of data succeeded in improving his team’s fortunes.

The Performa Sports app is a performance analysis tool that allows coaching staff to build up information on their players and opponents during matches. It brings high-tech analytical tools to the handheld device.

Coaches and analysts can get the edge over the opposition by responding to problems identified by Performa Sports data during matches.

Managing director Danny Turley said: “Small margins make all the difference in sport. Whatever level they are playing at, teams are constantly looking at ways to capitalise on those margins.

“With Performa Sports, teams can generate data that makes it easy to spot the areas of the game that can help them to win the match while the game is still in progress.”

The app allows each event in the play to be easily tagged and the appropriate outcome selected as it happens. Events and outcomes can be customised so that users can generate unique, personalised analysis. Danny came up with the idea for the app during his own work as a sports analyst. After spending hours running through match videos, he set about developing Performa Sports to ensure that the bulk of the analysis work could be completed during matches.

Danny continued: “The biggest teams in the country use performance analysis to up their game, but they spend thousands of pounds every year to do this. Clubs playing at lower levels want to add that professionalism to their setup, but until now the price was prohibitive.

“There was a situation where the people who have least time on their hands to spend on analysis are currently forced to spend the more hours on it in order to do a decent job.

“We’ve developed Performa Sports to be very intuitive to ensure you don’t need days of training to get the most out of it and make performance analysis as easy as possible.”

The versatile app is also suitable for football, Gaelic football and hurling, with basketball, hockey, ice hockey and cricket versions on the way soon.

Visit www.performasports.com for more information or download the app at bit.ly/performasports.

A MASSIVE £1.2 billion deal has been struck that will see around 200,000 council and housing association tenants across the UK getting free solar panels installed on their homes.

Yorkshire-based Solar Europa has unveiled what it claims is the UK's biggest-ever deal for free solar power after securing financial backing from a market-leading project finance specialist.

Over the next four years, the deal is expected to create up to 3,000 jobs for installation and maintenance teams all over the country.

It could slash every tenants' electricity bill by up to fifty per cent – and could also be a financial lifeline for cash-strapped councils and housing associations who will earn substantial rental incomes for the next 25 years.

The deal will help social landlords take a huge steps towards tackling the escalating problem of fuel poverty, while at the same time confirming their commitment to hitting the Government's carbon reduction targets.

Solar Europa is now set to open discussions with councils and social landlords, with the first installations due to start as soon as September.

Spokesman David Hawkins described the deal as a 'win win' situation for local authorities, housing associations – and their tenants.

He said: "With spiralling electricity costs hardly ever out of the news, fuel poverty is an important issue facing every social housing provider.

"Financial constraints have, until now, meant many housing associations and local authorities have been unable to invest in much-needed renewable technologies.

"Installing solar photovoltaic panels as part of a wider energy efficiency programme can help alleviate the problems of high energy costs for tenants.

"The average tenant who has solar panels installed can save as much as 50 per cent off their annual electricity bill and that saving can make a massive difference to the lives of many householders across the country.

"This deal will go a long way towards helping housing providers meet the requirements of the Government's White Paper on reducing fuel poverty while at the same time, help them meet carbon reduction targets – and all at no cost to the tenant or landlord."

In Barnsley, where the company is based, it will mean an extra 25 new jobs working in distribution and support roles.

The company has already invested in a new 75,000sq ft northern warehouse and distribution depot in the village of Barugh Green, a few miles from its headquarters in Dodworth. And it has also secured a southern distribution depot in Sunbury-on-Thames.

All properties fitted with the solar PV kits will benefit from the latest generation of micro-inverter technology, meaning the systems are 25 per cent more efficient than conventional kits.

A spokesman for AD-ECO which is providing the funding for the partnership said they were delighted with the outcome of several months of negotiations.

He added: "AD-ECO bring many years of financial experience and understand the importance of being able to deliver extremely flexible solutions to the end user – something that is vital in a sector which increasingly insists on a "one size fits all" mind-set.
"The flexibility and innovation that Solar Europa brings to the design of individual projects was key to our choice."

	ENDS

A report commissioned by the government has found that 35% of all the energy used in the UK could come from renewable sources in 10 years time.

The report was commissioned back in December 2010 by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), and has looked at a variety of sustainable sources including biomass technologies such as wood pellet boilers and stoves, wave and tidal power and solar power.

The findings show that the UK's energy generating capacity is better than previously expected and could encourage the government to invest more in renewables.

Renewable energy sources can easily be fitted to your home to help you do your part in reducing the country's dependence on fossil fuels and other unsustainable forms of energy.

Thanks to the government's renewable heat incentives, homeowners are offered help with the costs of installing renewable sources such as solar panels to their home.

Feed In Tariffs are also available, which allow you to sell any extra energy back to the Grid, meaning that adding sustainable energy sources to your home could benefit your pocket as well as the environment!

"If you care about greenhouse gases, we've got to look at a safe and secure nuclear industry." Barack Obama, President, United States

Owners and operators of nuclear facilities are always focused on the challenge of avoiding project delays, reducing unplanned shutdowns, and enhancing safety in line with productivity.

In the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear PP accident, however, the challenge of anticipating and minimizing the impact of major plant incidents is an equally high-profile priority. When faced with the competing challenges of ensuring readiness to deal with major incidents, complex shutdowns and major capital planning, it is clear a new approach is needed to achieve these business-critical goals.

In response, a virtual solution has been increasing in prominence which allows owners and operators of complex plants such as nuclear facilities a low risk, high return ability to visualize their plants in four dimensions and prepare not only for major incidents, but also build readiness for capital project management, maintenance and shutdown planning.

In a new online presentation, Alain Floutier of Dassault Systmes solution shares how other plant owner/operators are using 4D visualization tools to understand:

How safety can be enhanced " and productivity boosted – during all phases of the project and plant lifecycle from design through to decommissioning

What lessons can be applied to the nuclear industry from the aeronautical and automotive sectors

What plant/product lifecycle management software can be used in design, simulation, manufacturing and maintenance

How simulating in 3D and 4D allows you to learn how to operate the plant in a variety of scenarios via gaming and interaction

Steps you can take to avoid islands of separate systems and information to manage all elements of a project's execution

The presentation is hosted online at:

London, June 28, 2011: After careful consideration of several oil trading and risk technology solutions, Chase Petroleum Ghana Ltd (Chase) chose AspectCTRM Standard Edition (SE), to manage its oil trading and risk management operations. The flagship solution from Aspect Enterprise Solutions (AES) is the only Web-based multi-commodity trade and risk management system for front, middle and back office professionals, delivered in the Cloud.

Chase, an oil trading and distribution company specializing in trading crude oil and bulk refined products between Africa and Europe is active in transportation, storage and distribution of petroleum products.

AES' AspectCTRM SE was selected after other vendor systems and in-house options were investigated. The high cost and long deployment timeframes from software vendors which required hardware, software and maintenance made AES the preferred choice. Because all AES solutions are deployed via the Web, it takes days or weeks to implement rather than months or years like older software technology. Because they're delivered as a service, the costs are predictable with monthly subscription fees per user.

Kwasi Deh, head of commercial at Chase says "AspectCTRM was the best option for us. It matched our requirements exactly and we were already familiar with AspectDSC so it was so easy to move across."

AspectDSC is the Decision Support Center from AES, which delivers futures prices from leading exchanges including ICE and NYMEX, and spot prices from Platts and Dow Jones. It integrates with AspectCTRM for convenient pricing of trades on the same platform.

Moving from individual spreadsheets to an enterprise-wide CTRM system was essential to keep track of trades and allow visibility across the company with users travelling regularly. AspectCTRM is fully Web-based so it can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.

Robert Batong-Hor, finance manager at Chase adds, "The mobile access is important to us as we travel a lot and need to share data wherever we are. With Aspect we can aggregate our activities across the company in real-time."

AES's minimal implementation timeframe meant that Chase's master data was loaded into the system and they were running and fully operational just one week later, meaning no 'down-time' for traders and the benefits of the solution were evident immediately.

Yags Savania, sales director EMEA at AES explains, "AspectCTRM SE was the perfect solution for Chase. Having been AspectDSC users for some time it was simple to scale up to the CTRM system and start experiencing the benefits of a full trade and risk management solution in a very short time frame. The easy remote access suits their travel commitments, and there is room to scale up further as their needs change and their business grows."

Europe's newest bio-fuels trading house, Ambrian Energy, has deployed AspectCTRM, the front-to-back-office trading and risk management suite by Aspect Enterprise Solutions (AES).

Created in August 2010 by the acquisition of Masefield Bio-Fuels by Ambrian Capital, the new trader is headed by Bernd Sturmheit, formerly of Masefield, Vattenfall and E.ON.

"Having worked with AspectCTRM before, I was assured of its capabilities," says Sturmheit. "For Ambrian Energy, they were the best solution for trade capture and risk management."

Ambrian Energy, based in London, Hamburg, and Singapore, specialises in providing palm-, rapeseed- and soybean-based bio-diesel to customers throughout Europe.

AspectCTRM was deployed and tested at Ambrian Energy over a single weekend, and fully operational for when traders returned to their desks on the Monday morning.

Aspect Enterprise Solutions director of sales, Yags Savania comments, "The scalability of AES's Software-as-a-Service solutions and the speed with which they can be deployed contrasts dramatically with client-software systems which typically take a year or more to implement and which fail to effectively scale downwards to support smaller trading operations."

Even in a large scale fully end-to-end implementation, key elements of AspectCTRM, such as deal capture and risk analysis, can be in place, working and delivering value within a matter of days, with successive additional elements going live as the progress of integration projects allows.

Countries in western Europe that are looking to reduce carbon dioxide emission and increase renewable energy contribution have implemented robust policies that favour energy storage methods. Their endeavours to achieve permissible emission levels have created a need for better energy management that, in turn, has led to higher demand for batteries in utilities.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.powersupplies.frost.com), European Utility Battery Market, finds that the market earned revenues of $126.4 million in 2010 and expects this to increase to $564.9 million in 2015.

Although Europe generates sufficient energy, the quality of power leaves much to be desired. The frequent surges, dips and interruptions have made a strong case for utility batteries, particularly in back-up and grid stabilization applications in smart grids.

"The increasing importance as well as need to install and implement micro grids and smart grids stokes demand for utility batteries," says Frost & Sullivan Industry Manager Suba Arunkumar. "Utility batteries, uniquely, can make it viable to implement smart grids and develop infrastructure for charging electric vehicles."

Batteries could also help utilities save costs by lowering the need to construct a new generation plant. Additionally, batteries aid efficient handling of power, which reduces fuel consumption.

Currently, lead acid batteries are the only affordable chemistries; however, their energy density and performance come up short when compared to other chemistries.

On the other hand, the efficient chemistries are too expensive for widespread adoption. Scientists have not yet developed a chemistry that can be applied across all applications in utilities, and this translates to higher investments by end users.

Once they refine and expand the scope of their technologies, market participants can make the most of the demand from western European countries that wish to increase power generation through environment-friendly renewable sources. Utilities will need batteries to store the generated energy and feed-in to the grid.

"Furthermore, the sophisticated electronic gadgets and technically advanced lifestyles in these countries hike the demand for electricity," notes Arunkumar. "Utility batteries cater to this demand by facilitating efficient energy management and enhanced generation."
