Thanks to Flexistore, students no longer need to worry about hauling goods to and from the home of their parents between semesters.

Flexistore offer one of the most efficient self storing services in the UK. Their reputation is built on groundbreaking warehousing practice and industry innovation. They have applied that portfolio to their latest student storage scheme and it is the otherwise stranded undergraduates who stand to benefit.

Many Universities encourage students to officially vacate housing during the summer break. The non-academic months are used to house active tenants or to prepare for new students the following year. Using the unoccupied rooms as storage space until September comes around is often out of the question for students but there could be a solution in Flexistore’s new programme.

For only £1 per box per week, Flexistore are offering plenty of cargo space and an unlimited supply of storage boxes. Collection is free, delivery is free and students can store almost anything they like, including furniture. This inexpensive solution could be a boon for students escaping to foreign shores this summer.

Keith Grant, Flexistore Director commented:

‘The average student spend for summer storage with us works out at just over £100. This is fantastic value compared to what it costs to drag belongings from University back home, only to return the same items at the start of the next semester.’

Meanwhile, according to UCAS figures, over 2.8 million applications were submitted to Universities across the UK in 2011 – approximately 5% more submissions than in 2010. Accommodation for the academic hopefuls is expected to be tight in September 2012.

Storage space between moves will effectively become even more critical, particularly in the major cities. Self storage in Cardiff, London and Manchester will be available from Flexistore depots, localised to the city centres. The firm have many more sites nationwide too.

To find out more about the student storage deals from Flexistore or to find your nearest warehouse, visit www.flexistore.co.uk. About Flexistore

Flexistore are self storage experts – providing easy, flexible and secure storage solutions to hundreds of homes and businesses throughout the UK. We combine the latest technology with excellent customer service and a network of stores in high profile, easy-to-access, main road locations. At Flexistore you can store by the week, month, year or for as long as you require. And we only ask for seven days notice when you want to leave.

With prices from as little as £25, Flexistore are offering students a professional shipping solution to help transport belongings to and from their summer locations. The door to door service has stemmed from Flexistore’s already reputable self storage operation.

Flexistore depots can be found up and down the UK. Their base for self storage in London is expected to become particularly busy after the coursework submission deadlines this summer. Students leaving the capital after deadline day can travel light, wherever they are headed, thanks to this programme.

Goods can be dispatched in the most appropriate method and extra packaging can be purchased from Flexistore directly. The firm can distribute by road, sea and air worldwide – which is what qualifies the company’s reputation as more than just a self storage and warehousing business.

Meanwhile, with annual university applications through UCAS approaching the three million mark, sufficient student accommodation is becoming more important in major UK cities. That figure includes foreign students coming to Britain for their higher learning – who can also benefit from Flexistore’s global reach.

Martin Chalmers, Flexistore Director, commented:

‘There are many more international students studying at Universities in the UK, and they invariably require a shipping service to and from the UK. Flexistore has provided shipping throughout the UK for many years, but there has been a steady increase in demand for worldwide shipping.’

For those lucky enough to retain their current student accommodation for when they return the following year, Flexistore storage centres can still be utilised as secure lockups. Their self storage operatives can deliver vaults to student houses in the UK and collect them once loaded.

To find out more about Flexistore’s global shipping services or to order a vault directly, visit www.flexistore.co.uk.

Courtesy of national charity Deafness Research UK, the fun filled educational show sponsored by BUPA and the BIG Lottery Fund has been conceived to teach viewers and children in particular, of the importance good hearing health.

Presented by enthusiastic former teacher Tobin May, the Bionic Ear Show is touring the country on a mission to raise awareness of the dangers to our hearing from constant loud music from MP3 players. The show involves many games and interactive activities that keep the children and adults alike entertained. The show also gives everyone the opportunity to experience what is it like to have impaired hearing, by participating in ‘guess that tune’, where pupils can discover how difficult, or easy, it is for those with cochlear implants, so called Bionic Ears, to recognise everyday music.
With the aid of the world’s largest ear, children at Samuel White will be shown how the ear works, what can go wrong and what can be done to hopefully put things right again.

Deafness Research UK fears that many among the ‘MP3 generation’ may face developing hearing conditions such as Tinnitus earlier than would be expected due to the increase in use of portable music devices. So many of us take our hearing for granted until we are faced with losing it, which is one reason why the Bionic Ear Roadshow is determined to make all of us aware of the potential consequences.

“The revolution in MP3 technology has given us all music on the move, but has also given us the risk of developing hearing conditions sooner than would be expected just as a result of old age,” said Vivienne Michael, Chief Executive of Deafness Research UK. “The Bionic Ear Show aims to redress the balance, by teaching the science behind hearing while at the same time encouraging everyone to enjoy their favourite sounds safely.”

Tobin May tailors each show for the age range of the audience and no scientific or specialist knowledge is required to appreciate and enjoy the performance. The show’s flexible format makes it perfect for mixed audiences of all ages and is suitable for the 4-7 year olds at Samuel White Infant School.

“We are not telling children to stop using music players altogether, or even adults for that matter, added Vivienne. “We are simply looking to encourage people to respect and care for their hearing and to listen to their favourite sounds in safety. Hearing is as precious as sight and this is something we want as many people as possible to appreciate before they are faced with losing it.”

Everyone can take something positive from this award winning show, with its interactive games and visual aids providing an educational spectacle that lives long in the memory. The Bionic Ear Show includes hearing tests (for those who would like them) together with informative demonstrations about how the ear works and how to protect your hearing.

Anyone who would like the Bionic Ear Show to visit their school, community group or event free of charge should contact Laura Turner at Deafness Research UK on 020 7164 2294 or email Laura at Laura.turner@deafnessresearch.org.uk.The schedule is subject to change, but an up to date version and further information can be found on the website at: www.bionicearshow.org

Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, has declared that England should adopt a Far Eastern-style curriculum in which schoolchildren are taught separate lessons in grammar checking.

There are concerns that too many students reach the age of 16 without a basic grasp of spelling and punctuation. And interim findings of an independent review ordered by Gove show that primary school pupils should receive lessons in basic scientific concepts including how plastic is made and how machines work.

The proposal is part of an overall scheme to “stiffen up the National Curriculum” to create a gold standard such as is demonstrated by the rigorous exam systems in high-performing countries such as Hong Kong, China and Singapore.

The government-commissioned review of the UK curriculum, by Expert Panel, reveals that in England children do not learn about the operation of a simple machine until seven and nine years old. In contrast, in Singapore kids are introduced to such concepts from as young as six years old.

The report shows that the successful Asian education system makes sure that all pupils have mastered a subject before moving on to the next; whereas in the UK, many pupils are left trailing behind.

Alterations to a new curriculum have been delayed until 2014 so that the radical proposals can be debated – but until then, get expert online proofreading services for your academic work by Proofreading.co.uk.

The Whitley Bay Playhouse handed out programmes to the audience for its production panto of Aladdin, which is running until 2nd January. But it wasn’t until a father in the crowd spotted the blunder that a revised version of the programme had been published with the corrected.

The mistake, which was blamed on human error, consisted of the letter T being missed from Widow Twankey’s name; the female character in Aladdin currently being played by BBC radio presenter Paul Harris.

The misprinted programme was withdrawn and an apology to all theatre goers was issued. The promoters behind Aladdin, Blue Genie Entertainment, also issued an apology on behalf of the printing company responsible for the fault. But the problem could have been avoided if they had hired expert online proofreading services from Oxbridge Editing.

With its low flat rate money-back guarantee, the service is a refreshing change for a number of students who simply cannot afford to have their class notes recovered.

With tuition hikes making education less affordable for the many students in the area, budgets have tightened. Many of the data recovery services available at the moment have complicated tiers depending on data, volume and hardware. “We can’t expect our students to afford these high prices,” said James Harper, TechLink’s Head of Support. The new student offering, which charges a flat rate of £20 for any device, offers a money-back guarantee if data is not recovered.

The service comes as no surprise to the IT support company’s existing customer base. The company was founded on the premise of helping both businesses and home users to recover their data without being overcharged. Inspire Vending, a recent client who had lost its entire database, relied on the expertise of TechLink’s engineers to recover the information it needed to run its business. “Their skill was only matched by their customer support,” said Alex Jones, IT Manager at Inspire Vending.

As reliance on computers and other electronics continues to mature, the need for affordable solutions grows as well. “Most students don’t take notes by hand anymore,” explained Harper, “They pay a lot of money to attend classes so their notes, projects, and opinions are worth a lot to them. Some companies want to cash in on that, but we believe in being fair.”

ABOUT TECHLINK SUPPORT

TechLink Support is a Leeds based IT support company that offers a full-range of IT services for both businesses and individuals. After nearly five years in business, the company has provided affordable support, serviced customer with little or no IT knowledge, and helped countless customers recover data from hard drives, USB sticks and much more.

Over 60 percent of Liberty Living’s 14,800 rooms across the UK are nominated directly to universities, forming a core part of the university’s accommodation provision.

For the academic year 2011-12, over 6,000 students across 15 universities booked accommodation with Liberty Living through the portal – numbers up from 3,250 in 2010-11.

The nominations portal is an industry-unique innovation which provides a portal solution for the management of nomination agreements between Liberty Living and its university partners, facilitating an automated process of the following:-

Transfer of student information from the university’s I.T. system to the portal

Email offer of accommodation direct from the portal to the student

Online contracting by the student for their reserved room

A real time window into the allocation process for the University, enabling rooms to quickly be re-offered if necessary

A better moving in experience as all systems are real time and fully up to date

Charles Marshall, CEO of Liberty Living, comments: “Nomination agreements are a very popular way for universities to secure high quality accommodation for their students. The nominations portal has been a resounding success and demonstrates our commitment to developing innovative ways to improve the way we work with our university partners”.

Andrew Brewer, Financial Controller of Liberty Living, comments: “Liberty Living recognises that students now expect to be able to manage their lives online, it is essential their first interaction with Liberty Living lives up to this expectation. Without developing a system such as the nominations portal, we would never have been able to provide an online booking service to the majority of our students. The portal is primarily used for first year students post ‘A’ level results, the ability for a student to be able to secure their accommodation within hours of confirming their university place is unique and in stark contrast to the days of waiting for the postman to disappoint once more.

The portal has been developed at significant cost to Liberty Living, however the benefits have proven the worth of such an investment, namely:-

A vastly improved means for the university to quickly and effectively offer students the rooms it has secured within the private sector

The student is able to complete an online application he has come to expect

Liberty Living’s back office systems are all updated automatically in real time

The nominations portal is genuinely a development whereby everybody benefits’’.

Northumbria University comments:“ The nominations portal has made allocating students to Liberty Living much quicker and easier, the rapid transfer of data from the University to the portal means offers are sent more quickly and access to real time acceptances means a faster turnaround of rooms and a more efficient service for students.”
