Many Brits will be basking in the lovely sunshine and enjoying the rising temperatures by throwing garden parties and BBQs. But with the house empty and all the people located outdoors, the risk of burglary heightens.

Security in the home is a key issue for thousands of families. If the music is blaring and the doors are left unlocked, there is a greater chance that something could be stolen without you even noticing. A tip is not to leave valuable jewellery loose on table cabinets, or cherished possessions that are expensive to replace in full view.

Often or not it is not the cost of a belonging that is significant but the sentimental value that is associated with it. Make sure your house is protected and safe from being robbed this summertime by shutting all windows when you go out, and locking all doors.

If you do plan on hosting a summer party, you may want to consider locking all your precious belongings away safe and sound with home and security safes. There are a wide range of safes that you can purchase that vary in size and cost, and some can even be made invisible by hiding them under the floor or in the wall.

The tragic events of September 11 2001 led to a necessity to re-examine existing airport security systems and technologies. More than a decade on, new legislation has been adopted, regulatory authorities established and additional equipment installed at airport facilities throughout the world. As demand for air travel continues to grow year on year, governments and aviation enforcement authorities face the need to adopt strict safety measures that will counter terrorist threats before they occur whilst limiting the inconvenience faced by the passenger. Existing threats, rising passenger numbers and airport expansion projects mean that the global aviation security market will reach $22.3 billion in 2012.

The prevailing economic conditions faced by North America and Europe have meant that projected sales forecasts are restrained However the impact of these economic constraints to the overall aviation security industry will be limited as in the longer term safety and security continue to remain a priority. Upgrades to existing security features and investment in R&D will help to maintain steady growth in these markets.

Elsewhere, growth within Asian aviation security markets such as China and India is forecast by Visiongain to be significant, while in the longer term, Middle Eastern spending on aviation security is expected to increase sharply to meet the demand for new technology systems.

The report forecasts and analyses four key categories of aviation security technologies over the period 2012-2022

- Passenger and Baggage Screening
- Perimeter and Access Control
- Digital Surveillance
- Biometrics

UC Group and Cognosec GmbH will jointly focus on assisting businesses to trade more securely, by providing integrated security, risk management and payment services, in response to the growing number and sophistication of cybercrimes.

Cognosec GmbH will become part of UC Group’s payment business, reporting to the SecureTrading Group. SecureTrading and Cognosec GmbH together will help merchants to secure the whole payment processing value chain – data, devices and networks – as cybercrime threats become more complex and harder to manage using existing safeguards. Critically, the two companies will also help online retailers and operators to meet their PCI DSS obligations as compliance becomes increasingly complex and expensive.

UC Group is a trusted advisor to US, UK, Asia Pacific and EU lawmakers and regulators and has extensively led the call for improved consumer and business protection to identify and minimise the growing risks to online businesses. In Europe alone, cyber-attacks are growing by 60 per cent a year, while 85 per cent of credit card record thefts are stolen by means of organised crime. The US currently accounts for 47 per cent of the global credit and debit card fraud, while generating only 27 per cent of the global total volume of purchases and cash, according to a recent Nilson Report.

The Cognosec GmbH acquisition enables UC Group to combat payment processing value chain and information security risks through the assessment and application of appropriate security for businesses in any part of the globe.

Based in Vienna, Cognosec GmbH is active in Europe, Middle East, Africa and the US and its multi-lingual and multi-disciplined team has significant experience in information security consulting and assurance in many sectors, including online gaming, Government, telecommunications, finance and ecommerce. Cognosec GmbH’s approach to compliance ensures that significant regulatory, internal governance and compliance issues are quickly recognised and addressed to enable management to align corporate risk appetite with its overall strategy, for businesses in both developed and emerging economies.

Oliver Eckel, CEO at Cognosec GmbH, says, “There are strong mutual benefits to both UC Group and Cognosec GmbH; through our specialisms in assurance, governance, enterprise risk and information security management, coupled with UC Group’s understanding of the online market and selected exclusive worldwide partnerships, we will be able to further extend our global reach. As more and more business goes online, the volume and type of threats to security are growing; we have the skills and track record to ensure that key business assets are safeguarded, whilst ensuring that businesses can trade uninterrupted. And with the advent of mobile business, our clients will be looking for even greater support, which we are better placed to offer as part of UC Group.”

Kobus Paulsen, CEO of UC Group, says, “UC Group leads the way in improving the quality and efficiency of internet business for online product and service providers. Recently UC Group has spearheaded the drive to regulate online gaming in Spain and the US to apply appropriate controls and safeguards for improved consumer protection. The acquisition of Cognosec GmbH strengthens our core proposition: to offer our clients safe and secure e-solutions for global trading.”

He went on, “With the massive growth in online business and a proportionate rise in hacking, data theft and viruses, the issue of security is truly global and that concerns not just businesses, but governments, regulators, acquirers, banks and the entire payments supply chain. By integrating the Cognosec GmbH service offering as part of the SecureTrading Group, we expect to boost our position as an early port of call for companies seeking security solutions and support to implement compliance projects within the payment card industry and their business operations.”

ENDS

UK – January 9th, 2012 – MOBOTIX AG, a leading manufacturer of digital high-resolution, network-based video security systems has released details of a project at a new state of the art, multi million pound data centre built by Oxford University that is benefiting from advanced MOBOTIX CCTV technology to improve operational procedures. Oxford University is one of the worlds leading academic and research communities and at its heart is a complex and powerful IT infrastructure. Although many of the colleges run their own computing environments, Oxford University Computing Services (OUCS) is tasked with providing many of the key shared facilities, services and core networks reaching all departments and colleges.

With the growth of virtualisation technologies, the newest OUCS facility built at its South Parks Road site has been designed to allow IT to become a more fluid resource. As David Birds, Data Centre Manager for OUCS explains; from its inception, the design needed to be in-line with best practice in terms of remote management, provisioning and security. “We had looked at how other modern data centres were constructed and evaluated elements like rack design, cooling, PDUs, monitoring and security. From day one, we always envisioned the data centre to be effectively “lights-out” but with a high level of automation and security to ensure the safety of the site and any lone workers.”

Working closely with J Brand, an Advanced MOBOTIX Partner and principal contractor for the data centre fit-out, Birds conducted a comprehensive review of potential CCTV solutions. The system needs to integrate alongside a range of security measures such as biometric readers, RFID keycards and anti-tailgating doors. “It was clear from early on that the MOBOTIX solution was particularly well suited to our requirements as it offered high quality images, proven reliability and hemispheric technology to allow us to cover the widest areas with as fewest possible cameras,” explains Birds, “the fact that the systems had scope to add additional features such as integration with access devices and audio also provided a strong case for the longevity of the solution.”

Just 16 cameras including 14 x Q24 hemispheric models cover the 12,000 Sq/f facility. “The implementation was relatively straight forward and like the entire facility, the cameras have access to redundant power and battery backup,” Birds adds. OUCS has opened the doors to the first University Department to make use of the facility and the lights-out nature of the centre also provides a significant operational benefit. “Having staff on site is a waste of resources as 99% of all the provisioning, adds, moves and changes that need to take place are all done remotely,” explains Bird. “Any activity inside the centre now leaves a full video audit trail which has significant advantages over a guard who, even if we had one, would never be allowed to wander unsupervised around the more critical parts of the facility.”

About MOBOTIX AG:
MOBOTIX AG is a software company with in-house hardware development in the area of digital, high-resolution and network-based video security solutions. The company focuses on the development of user-friendly complete system solutions from a single source. The publicly traded company with headquarters in Langmeil, Germany, is known as the leading pioneer in network camera technology since its foundation in 1999 and its decentralized concept has also made high-resolution video systems cost-efficient. From 2010 onwards, MOBOTIX will extend its product range to include intelligent home automation products that are developed in-house. Whether in embassies, airports, railway stations, ports, gas stations, hotels or highways, over one hundred thousand MOBOTIX video systems have been in operation on every continent for years.

About J Brand Ltd:
Originally set up in 1933 by Joseph Brand as an electrical contracting and repair business in Margaret Street W1, the company today still operates today with the same guiding principle of “Customer Service” underpinning all its many core activities.
With Headquarters still based in Margaret Street, J Brand now directly employs over 120 Staff many located regionally – and offers a nationwide-/-European service.
Diversification has also enabled J Brand to flourish, with pioneering work being conducted in the late 1970s, when data communications was in its infancy.
With the addition of a dedicated support desk facility, configuration centres in London and the North West of England and continued investment in personnel, J Brand is able to offer customers a total network solution for projects across technologies and vertical market sectors.
The success of J Brand is all about listening to clients and tailoring a solution to meet specific business needs.
A significant amount of the projects that the Company undertakes involves working at multiple sites across the country, with a typical installation involving over 1000 sites, across the UK and into Europe that require data and electrical installations as well as PC/EPOS deployment. J Brand can deliver this type of project to tight timescales and often out of normal office hours because of the highly skilled and professional staff.
While the industry trend seems to be towards sub-contract staff, J Brand does not believe this to be the best way forward. J Brand can guarantee the quality of the installations by employing over 120 engineers and never using sub-contract labour.
Designed to meet the needs of housing associations, local authorities and the police, they can be installed in minutes to provide a cost effective solution to combat the ever increasing incidence of anti-social behaviour, domestic violence, fraud, distraction burglaries and other offences.

According to Rapid Vision Systems: “This is the world’s first high quality door viewer camera/recorder system that is designed to be redeployed at a moment’s notice without fear of breakage. It provides a practical alternative to traditional systems, which are designed to be fitted only once, and will deliver significant operational savings over the life of the equipment as well as helping to cut crime.”

The camera and digital video recorder automatically switch on when movement is detected within 2 metres of the door. An integrated 2.5″ colour LCD display, mounted in a sealed housing on the inside of the door, provides high quality images which are recorded on the built-in SD card with a capacity of up to 16GB. Recordings can be viewed on any computer and emailed or burned to disk for evidential purposes. The system is fully self-contained and no occupant intervention is possible ensuring continuity of evidence to aid successful prosecutions. An integrated rechargeable lithium ion battery enables the unit to operate for several weeks without recharging, but it can also operate using mains power giving fully unattended operation for extended periods.

This unique surveillance system can be installed as a direct replacement for an existing door viewer and fits any hole of 12mm or greater eliminating the need to modify or damage the door itself. This allows the original door viewer to be quickly and easily refitted at the end of the monitoring operation.

Rapid Vision Systems has developed a full range of door viewer cameras to provide appropriate surveillance for any given situation. As well as the overt system, it also provides a fully covert system with a camera mounted inside a normal door bell. The company also provides a version that integrates with more sophisticated DVRs, both wired and wireless, enabling images to be viewed from any location using Wi-Fi or 3G connections.

About Rapid Vision Systems

Rapid Vision Systems Ltd is a specialist provider of redeployable CCTV solutions to the police, local authorities, housing associations, crime reduction partnerships and other organisations. They are used for a wide range of overt and covert operations to combat antisocial behaviour, street crime, drug dealing and racial harassment. Rapid Vision Systems provides the highest level of technical backup and support for the life of the equipment and offers free user training when required.

That is why the popularity of Remote CCTV Monitoring system continues to gain momentum.

Until recently, analog surveillance cameras that were transmitting a signal to the monitor ruled the market. To connect to these systems of video surveillance were used ordinary antenna cables.

Then appeared the more complex systems for surveillance consisting from cameras, DVRs and monitors. The compound was also carried through the antenna cable.

With the advent and rapid development of digital technologies, remote video surveillance is becoming more sophisticated, and its features just amaze unsophisticated technical innovations of human.

Remote CCTV Monitoring is a rather complex set of technical, operating over the Internet. This system of IP-cameras having built-in encoder, making digitized signal received from the CCD. These systems provide the ability to control your property from anywhere in the world.

The only condition of this remote surveillance – Internet access – networks. To connect the security cameras to the IP-network, it must have a network interface. For wireless connections (so-called Wi-Fi) you need a wireless interface to oonnect to the Wi-Fi by using the radio channels.

Even this very limited information indicative of the huge benefits that have digital remote surveillance, compared with analog. First, it is remote monitoring, since, as already stated, you can monitor your property while at any distance from him. The results revealed a lack of adequate security measures is leaving many UK businesses open to the loss sensitive information via social media applications despite the majority of corporate IT teams voicing concerns over the increased risk of a data leak occurring. DeviceLock also found that 44 per cent of the businesses surveyed did not have any technology solutions in place to prevent corporate data from leakage via online channels such as Google+, Facebook, and Twitter. With the growing use of social media applications in the corporate environment, it is widely recognised that a robust data leak solution is now vital. DeviceLock found that 92 per cent of respondents cited social media tools, whether used in a personal or private capacity, as an information security concern for their company and that the majority of employees (84 per cent) were accessing personal social media accounts using corporate devices. In addition, just under three-quarters of respondents said that employees access corporate data through personal devices, yet nearly half admitted that there were no security solutions, either on the network or the endpoint, to prevent unauthorised data leakage from their company. “Social media is now an integral part of life for many of us from both a business and personal perspective and the growing use of consumer devices in the workplace means the lines are becoming even more blurred,” said Ashot Oganesyan, Founder and CTO, DeviceLock, Inc. “The results of the survey show that despite the fact many businesses understand the risks posed by social media to information security, there are not enough businesses taking this risk seriously. Where businesses have implemented security measures to address potential points of information leakage, the DeviceLock survey highlighted the issue that these can be counter-productive if they prevent employees from carrying out their work. Indeed, 44 per cent of respondents said they felt that the data leak security measures their firm had in place impede employees from doing their jobs effectively. “For those that do have a system in place, the survey emphasises that these solutions have to work with the employee, rather than constrain what they can and cannot do with social media,” added Oganesyan.

CCTV expert from NCPI Solutions demonstrates state of the art CCTV technology at event celebrating the life of one of England’s most influential 20th century authors

UK – December, 14th, 2011 – One of the highlights of the George Orwell Festival was a well received presentation from CCTV expert Stephen Burley which argued that: “Next-generation CCTV technology is shaping our future for the better,” complete with a demonstration of a cutting edge MOBOTIX CCTV system.

The George Orwell Festival hosts a variety of events celebrating the respected and influential author including staged adaptations of Orwell’s stories, art exhibitions, comedy evenings and themed talks. The festival runs in early September in the garden city and nearby Wallington, where the author of the iconic political novels Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm lived.

Stephen Burley, who is a Security Consultant at NCPI, a highly respected MOBOTIX Partner, delivered a candid demonstration and presentation on CCTV and how it has affected our lives. In the Orwell book 1984, CCTV was seen to be a malevolent force casting it in a bad light, but perhaps 2011 is the year CCTV out grows its Big Brother is watching you image and shows it has a positive role to play in society

The talk looked at whether the positive effects of CCTV get overlooked when the public worry about living in a ‘surveillance state’. The presentations gave examples of how complete scenes can be navigated and forensically examined to help solve crimes. CCTV systems are only as good as the person watching the images captured, MOBOTIX will take the guess work out of detecting negative behaviour and alert the relevant authorities of detected threats, being proactive and not passive in its role.

The audience showed great interest in the high quality images and MOBOTIX ability to react to its environment delivering instant alerts and also the depth of forensic detail that can be obtained from the post incident images. MOBOTIX image quality and technology is helping to keep the public safe in places such as on public transport and in rural locations where traditional cameras were unsuitable. Following the presentation, a lively Q&A session chaired by technology writer and George Orwell Festival co-ordinator James Hayes had to be extended for an extra hour as the highly interactive debate sprang up amongst the audience and the CCTV expert.

“It is interesting that in the recent riots, much of the images that were used to identify rioters actually came from other members of the public from cameras on mobile phones,” comments Stephen, “Citizens used video and images to help fight crime. This shows just how much we have grown to accept video as part of our society.”

There is more in Orwell’s book Nineteen Eighty-Four we as a global society has accepted which is far more sinister in its role than Big Brother, but due to its visibility CCTV got the bad press but is now poised to change people’s perception that surveillance is not necessarily a bad thing.
