It has been reported that the head of the European’s Environment Agency used hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ money on plants for its offices.

In a meeting by the Parliament’s Budgetary Control Committee it was revealed that Jacqueline McGlade, a British scientist in charge of the agency, spent around €300,000 on plants for its offices in Copenhagen in Denmark.

Further findings from the report showed that €30,000 of EU funds was forked out to train staff in the Caribbean and Mediterranean.

Marta Andreason, Former EU chief accountant and UKIP MEP who sits on the budgetary control committee, called for Mrs McGlade to be sacked immediately. She said: “The brazen manner in which taxpayers’ money was misused here is breathtaking.”

The agency’s accounts for 2010 are reportedly not being signed off by MEPs dealing with EU spending due to the alleged conflict of interests.
