The title of Best Country Solo Performance went to Taylor Swift for her song “Mean.” Swift wrote and sang the hit, which held an anti-bullying message. The song was also named Best Country Song at the Grammys. Swift noted in interviews prior to the Grammys that “Mean” was her response to what she felt was an unfair review written by a well-known music critic.
The indie band, Bon Iver, was awarded recognition as Best New Artist. The folk band also received the appellation of Best Alternative Music Album. On the other end of the spectrum, Tony Bennett, a long-time crooner with a career spanning more than 60 years, took home the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for a duet with late English songstress, Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011. The song is from the album Duets II, which won Bennett the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album award.
In the category for Best Pop Instrumental Album, Booker T. Jones won for “The Road to Memphis, while “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” netted the artist known as Skrillex the Best Dance Recording award, along with Best Dance/Electronica Album.
Foo Fighters swept the Grammys in the rock category, receiving the award for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for their hit, “Walk.” The band also won for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for “White Limo,” Best Rock Album for “Wasting Light,” and Best Long Form Music Video for “Foo Fighters: Back and Forth.”
The Best R&B Performance award went to “Is This Love” by Corinne Bailey Rae, while the Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B award went to “Fool For You” by Cee Lo Green and Melanie Fiona. Chris Brown won for Best R&B album.
A host of well-known artists and songs made their mark on the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, from the always controversial Kanye West, along with rapper Jay-Z, and pop star Rihanna. After the success of their first studio album Kamakaze Showdown, Lostcords are back with a brand new single Climbing Trees.

Lostcords are an up-and-coming rock band from Horton, consisting of Ben Smith on drums, Lee Townend on rhythm guitar, Adam Verity on lead guitar and Reuben Collis on bass and lead vocals. The band started out four years ago with Adam and Lee jamming together at Lee’s grandma’s house while she was out at bingo but what began as two pals having a laugh together has now become a serious venture for the Horton lads. After Ben joined on drums, the trio actively sought a bassist and singer to complete the band and recorded their first album at Langley studios. Despite this the lads still don’t take themselves seriously and love nothing more than playing to a live crowd.

Lead singer Reuben says: “There were no real intentions of it being a serious band, it was just an idea. We started practicing in Adam’s garage twice a week and three years later were on the verge of something really special.”
Reuben adds: “Our aim for the future is to get recognition in the industry so that we can tour. We believe we have the songs, it’s just getting them out there.”
The four-piece band play a mixture of rock and pop music and cite Dave Grohl, Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, Nikki Sixx and Slash amongst their influences. The lads are also big fans of Motown.

On their music, the band said: “We like to think we are original but there is always an element of our inspirations in our sounds, which I guess can’t be helped.”
The band regularly play at gigs in and around the Reading area and will be performing at the Battle of the Bands in High Wycombe on the 2nd of January and at the Zenith bar in Islington on the 14th.
