A win or a draw against their north west neighbours would see Liverpool unbeaten for the tenth game in a row as they continue to quietly climb the Premier League table. The Kopites currently sit fifth behind Chelsea, who they defeated last weekend with a dramatic late goal from full-back Glen Johnson.

Along with this weekend’s opponents, the Reds boast the best defensive record in the Premier League but goals could also be on the agenda considering Liverpool’s 3-0 win over City last spring and the Blues’ recent fine goal-scoring form.

Despite their run of success, the team know that free-spending City will be a tough proposition. Speaking to the Liverpool Daily Post, Dalglish said: “It will be difficult against Man City, we know that. They’re top of the league and are playing very well.

“Not being in Europe means we have a week to prepare for their visit. We’d much rather be in Europe than not be but for us it’s not about having the time to get ready, it’s how we use that time to prepare. We’ll do that properly and see what the weekend brings.”

Redknapp and Mandaric are to stand trial for tax evasion in relation to two payments equalling £183,000 allegedly made by Mandaric to Redknapp when both were acting chairman and manager at Portsmouth FC.

The payments in question were supposedly made through a Monaco bank account in order to evade income tax and national insurance contributions due on both amounts between 1 April 2002 and 28 November 2007.

The Crown alleges that the payments were made “with intent to defraud and to the predjudice of HM Revenue and Customs as a result of or in connection with Henry James Redknapp’s employment and as a reward for services.”

Redknapp and Mandaric were originally arrested under suspicion of two counts of cheating the public revenue by the City of London Police in November 2007.

Redknapp and Mandaric firmly deny both claims.

On 6th December 2009 The News of the World published an article that revealed Redknapp had fired off a 16-page document to the police and HMRC containing details on why he should not be under the charge of tax evasion.

It was also revealed that Redknapp had hired top criminal fraud lawyer, Ian Burton, to beef up his defence in court.

Redknapp and Milan Mandaric first appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates’ court on 11th Feb 2010 where both men were given unconditional bail by the in court District Judge, Timothy Workman, just 10 minutes after appearing in court. The case was originally adjourned until 14 April 2011, but both men are now due to stand trial for the tax evasion accusations in the New Year and are expected to be in court for two weeks.

Tipped as the favourite to replace England boss Fabio Capello next summer, Redknapp has previously defended the allegations by saying in The Times:

“I’ve paid £10 million in income tax in the past ten years, it’s in dispute whether the money is owed, and I have been totally up front with everyone about this. I’m sick of it.”

The Full indictment against Redknapp and Mandaric Reads:

Count One: Milan Mandaric and Henry James Redknapp, between the 1st day of April 2002 and the 28th day of November 2007, at the material times repectively the Chairman and the Football Manager of Portsmouth City Football Club Limited, with intent to defraud and to the predjudice of HM Revenue and Customs, arranged for $145,000 paid by Milan Mandaric as a result of or in connection with Henry James Redknapp’s employment and as a reward for services, to be transferred to a Monaco bank account opened by Henry James Redknapp for that purpose, in order to conceal the said emolument from HM Revenue and Customs and evade the payment of Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions thereon (whther by the operation of PAYE by the club or otherwise).

Count Two: Milan Mandaric, between the 1st day of May 2004 and the 28th day of November 2007, at the material times the Chairman and the Football Manager of Portsmouth City Football Club Limited, with intent to defraud and to the predjudice of HM Revenue and Customs, arranged for $150,000, paid by Milan Mandaric as a result of or in connection with Henry James Redknapp’s employment and as a reward for services, to be transferred to a Monaco bank account opened by Henry James Redknapp for that purpose, in order to conceal the said mployment income from HM Revenue and Customs and evade the payment of Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions thereon (whether by the operation of PAYE by the club or otherwise). Having recently underwent minor heart surgery to unblock his arteries at the start of November 2011, Redknapp has been advised to stay away from the Spurs sideline for four to five weeks.

Kevin Kinsella, of KinsellaTax Investigations, said:

“I think this may be the beginning of a crack down on the football industry. I have no comment to make about Harry as a QPR supporter. I do feel sorry for him given he is talked about as the future England manager, which personally I think he would do fabulously and everything seems to be so much in his favour. But then HMRC can strike at any time and turn your life upside down.”

In a bid to crackdown on tax avoidance schemes in the Premier League and Football League, HMRC have now joined forces with the Football Association (FA) to scrutinise payments received by football agents over the last year.

Analysts Deloitte have estimated that football agent’s earned a whopping £80m last year from players in both major football leagues.

On behalf of HMRC the FA have sent out letters to all licensed football agents notifying them that they will be giving HMRC details of all payments that have been made to agents in the past year.

A spokesman for the FA, said:

“We are more than happy to assist HMRC in these matters.

“Transparency is uppermost in our thoughts and this will bring further clarity to the game.”

Details of payments made in 2010-2011, up to 31 March, to football agents through Wembley’s clearing house account will be disclosed by the FA to HMRC by 31 October 2011.

The Daily Telegraph has seen a copy of the letters in question that were sent out to football agents, which state:

“The FA would like to make you aware that HMRC have required us to submit…all payments made to FA Licensed Agents in respect of Agency Activity on behalf of football clubs, paid via The FA Clearing House for the years ending 31st March 2010 and 31st March 2011.

“In accordance with its legal obligations, the FA will be complying with this notice. The details submitted to HMRC will comprise: The name and address of the agent to whom the earnings passed – the amount of money that was passed to the agent – the name and address of the original payer of the money – the name of the player to whom the payment relates – the date on which the payment was made.”

High profile football agents that may have received the FA’s letter could include Kia Joorabchian and Willie McKay, who recently came under fire by HMRC for his involvement acting as agent for Joey Barton’s transfer to Queens Park Rangers from Newcastle Utd.

Mckay confirmed he received a fee from Queens Park Rangers, although it is unknown if the payment relates to Barton’s transfer fee:

“Every deal I have done for the last eight years has been scrutinised and everything I do is above board and in line with the rule,” Mckay added.

HMRC are to audit every payment made to agents in an attempt to tackle tax avoidance loopholes thought to be used by premiership footballers and agents.

One legitimate tax avoidance loophole that the Revenue is keen to close is the avoidance of benefit-in-kind tax by footballers. This is done by the football agent representing the buying club, instead of the player, so money is paid for services to the football club and not liable for the tax.

A spokesman for HMRC, said:

“HMRC are aware of a potential tax issue concerning the payment of agent fees and are taking steps to ensure the tax rules are respected.”

The Revenue believes that football players are costing the public purse millions of pounds a year through such tax avoidance schemes.

Kevin Kinsella, at KinsellaTax Investigations, says:

“It does look as though HMRC are going for football agents who are generally regarded as high earners. If there are problems I do hope that the agents actually instruct specialists who deal with these sort of cases on a day to day basis rather than leave the matters in the hands of their solicitors or accountants, who are no doubt brilliant at what they do, but these tax enquiries do warrant specialist tax advisors who only do that on a day to day basis.

“I like to compare it with the building industry as you would not ask a brick layer to do plumbing or electrical work,” he adds.

Football agents are one of many high-net worth individuals that will be targeted by HMRC’s tightening the net of tax avoidance schemes used by individuals and businesses.

It can become confusing if there are far too many options. This is precisely what is happening in Internet gambling now. There are so many options today in baccarat, blackjack, roulette, poker, and online slots that most gamers are at a loss about selecting the right gaming website. They will certainly not want to end up choosing the wrong website. This is precisely where SlotsWiz.com is helping them. The website has carried out a detailed study of hundreds of casino slots and has published their reports on the Internet. SlotsWiz.com has come up with a recommended list of casino websites that are fun, exciting, profitable, and most importantly, safe.

Do you want to play just for fun, or for real cash? Are you interested in receiving a 100 percent bonus when you make your first deposit? Do you want to insure that your credit card transactions are always safe at the online slots casino room? Which are the websites that offer the biggest jackpot winnings? An average person will never be able to find this out because most people cannot visit hundreds of casino websites to carry out the review. Often, to carry out the review, you will have to become a paid member and play for real cash. Naturally, it is impractical to pay up at fifty or a hundred websites. This is where a review website can help.

SlotsWiz.com has done all the hard work. The reviewers here have visited hundreds and thousands of websites offering slots machine games. They have carried out their detailed investigations, compared one against the other, and published their findings at the website. It has made your job of finding the perfect casino website really easy. All you have to do is to just visit the website and take a look at the list of recommended websites. SlotsWiz.com has even published a list of the top three recommended casinos. You could sign up at any of these three websites, or pick one from the others in the list.

These websites for online slots machines have been reviewed on various categories. Is the gaming experience above average? Is the website offering a lot of bonus deals and promotions? Are they offering any loyalty program or “refer a friend” incentive? Is the payout quick and easy? The judgments made and reviews published about online slots at SlotsWiz.com are always honest and non-biased. This is why online gamers have been depending on the recommended list at SlotsWiz.com for some time now. It is easy to visit the recommended websites. You can just click on the link against the name of each casino. This is indeed the easiest way to find the best Internet casino websites.

As part of this week's challenge the gadget show team were given 5 high tech safes and had only one hour to break into them. Inside the safes were items that the team would definitely not want the public to see! The race had begun and the team were off
They jumped straight into their a-team van (part of an earlier challenge) and drove to a quarry where they were presented with the range of safes from http://www.thesafesupermarket.com

There were individual safes waiting for them and each one contained an embarrassing clip of the presenter's earliest TV performances.
The footage of Otis was from his first ever TV appearance (1994) on blind date and was locked inside the Sentry QE Range Data Storage Safe. This safe has a USB port on the front which means that you can connect to a drive locked inside.

The safe Susie had to crack was the phoenix citadel " it locks using two solid steel 25 mm bolts and has an insurance rating of £40,000 pounds for jewellery. The safe contained a clip of Susie's first TV performance in a Kenco coffee advert.

Poly was given the secure line ps2-27E " Its constructed with a 8mm solid steel door and a 3mm solid steel body with hardened steel protecting the locks. The safe contained a clip of Pollyanna from her TV debut on pop stars the rivals in 2002.

Johns clip was from his appearance on TOP gear and was locked inside a Yale medium fire safe. This was the cheapest of the safes on test, is made of hardened steel and has a lock that has over a billion combinations. Footage of Jason's first TV appearance on television in a Telewest broad cast from 1994 was locked inside a Burton magnum 36k/e.

The team had to work together to break into the safes so that they could recover the embarrassing footage and make sure that it would never see the light of day again. In true gadget show style the team got cracking straight away with a huge great digger. (No listening to combinations with a stethoscope here!) With Susie driving the digger the team loaded the safes onto the diggers cradle. The safes were dropped from a great height to see if the impact would open them. One by one they came crashing to the floor. Although they had a few cuts and bruises the impact certainly did not break any of them open.

The team needed to step it up a notch if they were ever to get hold of that footage. For the second test they each set about the safes with a powerful angle grinder. They thought that Jason had defeated the Sentry safe but he only managed to cut off the digital panel at the front. These safes are made of thick, reinforced and in some cases galvanised steel and though john did a good job of cutting around the lock of the phoenix he was unsuccessful and broke the angle grinder!

It wasn't looking good for the team and time was running out so they quickly moved on to their last shot at cracking the safes. It was time to roll out the explosives to see if they could blow the doors open. Their explosives specialist expert was on hand with some P.E.T.N or Pentaerythritol tetranitrate " a highly explosive compound and one of the most powerful explosives around today. P.E.N.T is used for demolition and even by the military. It's super destructive and the team were sure it would be enough to get into their armoured safes. The team carefully attached the explosives to each of their safe and kept everything crossed that they had finally managed to find a way to get them open " save their TV clips and win the challenge. As poly was set to trigger the explosions, the rest of the team stood back ready to watch the show. The explosions were huge and destroyed the concrete blocks that the safes were sitting on.

Even though every single safe had taken a serious beating – every single door was still shut. The team had failed their challenge.
The final score was: thesafesupermarket.com safes " 5, Gadget show presenters – 0

Morpheus will supply the TAS Screentoo application with real-time data essential to maintaining synchronicity between the primary broadcast and interactive and timeline-sensitive elements within the Screentoo application.

“Snell’s Morpheus is good fit for our Screentoo application because it can accommodate the volume and granularity of information required by second-screen applications,” said Vincent Parisis, CEO at TAS, a London-based developer specializing in translating brand expressions, such as popular TV programs, into engaging mobile and tablet experiences. “In particular, the MediaBall element of Morpheus is a uniquely powerful feature that provides valuable flexibility in handling the metadata that makes the second-screen model effective.”

The Screentoo app is available for media and broadcast organizations to distribute as their own branded application to provide services such as voting and ecommerce related to and customized for a specific show or channel. The very accurately timed metadata provided by Morpheus enables the Screentoo app to provide the consumer with options that correspond directly to events within the primary broadcast. Metadata about both the program and program contents allow the Screentoo app to trigger targeted advertising, provide information about a character or actor in the show, or launch a viewer poll.

“In addition to providing robust performance for delivery of content to media consumers’ television screens, Morpheus allows broadcasters to extend the experience onto a second device, where complementary interactive content drives up interest in programming and importantly enables new levels of highly targeted advertising,” said Neil Maycock, chief architect at Snell. “There are clear trends in consumers increasingly engaging with media through multiple devices at once, and the combination of Morpheus automation with apps such as Screentoo takes advantage of this trend to open the door to some exciting new possibilities.”

Demonstrations will be offered during the 2011 NAB Show at the Snell Booth, N1820. More information about Morpheus and other products from Snell is available online at www.snellgroup.com. Information about TAS and its products is available at www.applicationstore.co.uk.

National Charity Deafness Research UK will be in the Arena spotlight this Easter weekend, as the celebrated BBC documentary series profiles the astonishing life and work of the charity's own Vice President, and possibly the greatest record producer of all time, Sir George Martin, CBE.

Sir George has worked tirelessly for the cause of Deafness Research UK since his own hearing began to deteriorate; his status as a legendary music producer makes him a natural choice to be featured on one of the BBC's longest running flagship programmes dedicated to the Arts, following in the footsteps of other famous figures such as Bob Dylan, TS Elliot and Peter Sellers.

As well as reviewing his lengthy musical career, the documentary includes a sequence about Sir George's deafness, the impact it has had on his life and his work for Deafness Research UK – depicting his key role within the charity since 2001. The programme also features Professor McAlpine, Director of the UCL Ear Institute and his groundbreaking work on the brain's role in tinnitus " work that Deafness Research UK has helped to fund.

Vivienne Michael, Chief Executive at Deafness Research UK said: "It's been a real pleasure to work with Sir George. This programme promises to be a fascinating insight into the man behind some of the most influential music ever produced and will I'm sure give the public an entertaining and informative glimpse, not only of one of the most remarkable figures of the 20th century, but provide an insight into the world of deafness research too."

The producers followed Sir George during some of the engagements he performs on the charity's behalf. Last year this included an exclusive evening interview event followed by an auction of Beatles memorabilia that raised over £26,500. He also gave an inspiring speech at a recent 'Meet the Scientists' event about his personal experience of hearing loss and the need to spread the message about hearing preservation.

"Deafness Research UK does a wonderful job in raising awareness of the present day problems associated with loud noise," said Sir George, who suffers from progressive hearing loss and tinnitus and has two hearing aids. "I am forever telling young ones to lower the volume when they listen to music and it's a message that needs to be spread far and wide."
