For every belief, attitude, and behaviour Tittle investigates (in a way that only a trained philosopher can), she exposes the often unflattering implications of endorsing that belief, attitude, or behaviour and presents a great many counterarguments to those who would nevertheless persist – leaving the reader with way more to think about than its length would suggest.

“We are a thought-averse society,” Tittle says. “Convictions are based on emotion and intuition, not evidence and reasoned argument. Extended thought of any kind is discouraged and increasingly impossible: it requires a longer attention span than most people seem to have and more text than a tweet for its expression. Then too,” she continues, “people think ‘Everyone’s entitled to their opinion’ means ‘Everyone’s opinion is equally valid’ which, of course, is ridiculous.”

There isn’t even a category for her blog (www.pegtittle.com) in most blog directories, she says: the philosophy section is for academic material; popular culture seems to be limited to movies, television, and music; and the op-ed section is for political commentary. So who’s out there thinking about the everyday stuff, she wonders.

Sh*t that Pisses Me Off cannot be dismissed as just another collection of rants, and Tittle’s credentials distinguish her from so many other bloggers who publish collections.

She has an M.A. in Philosophy, a B.Ed. in English and Man-in-Society [sic], a B.A. in Literature and Philosophy (with a minor in Psychology), and diplomas in music (piano, composition) and dance.

She is the author of Critical Thinking: An Appeal to Reason (Routledge, 2011), What If…Collected Thought Experiments in Philosophy (Longman, 2005), Should Parents be Licensed? Debating the Issues (Prometheus, 2004), Ethical Issues in Business: Inquiries, Cases, and Readings (Broadview, 2000). She also contributed the Ethics unit to the high school philosophy text, Philosophy: Questions and Theories (McGraw-Hill Ryerson, 2003). Her papers have appeared in Sexuality & Culture: an interdisciplinary journal, The International Journal of Applied Philosophy, and Philosophy in a Contemporary World and have been anthologized in At Issue: Is Parenthood a Right or a Privilege? and Current Controversies: Child Abuse.

She was a columnist for The Philosopher Magazine’s online philosophy café for eight years and for Philosophy Now for two years. Her columns have also been published on a regular basis in Humanist in Canada, Links, and Academic Exchange Quarterly and on an occasional basis in Inroads, The Nugget, Canadian HR Reporter, Elenchus, Teaching and Learning Literature, University Affairs, South Australian Humanist Post, Forum, and The Humanist.

She has served on the ethics committee of the North Bay General Hospital and has had a number of positions in the education, social services, and recreation. She has also worked in maintenance and as a disc jockey.

Sh*t that Pisses Me Off is available in various ebook formats at Smashwords; it will also be on Amazon in Kindle, on BarnesandNoble as a NookBook, and on ChaptersIndigo for Kobo.

Each paper page is instilled with excitement, knowledge, fantasy, tips and epic tales. You’d have to search far for someone who doesn’t love turning the page of a good book. Paper books are aesthetically pleasing; the smell, touch, look and feel all appeal to centuries of experience ingrained in us. However times change and the way we consume things evolve. I was really against the Kindle, I think we all fear change occasionally but the more I thought about it the more it dawned on me that the technology was new but not the degree of change. If we look back many many years the paper book replaced stone tablets and they replaced writings on the wall. I’m not sure about you however I’m so grateful books replaced stone tablets, I’m nowhere near strong enough to carry Harry Potter around in that format! So what does Kindle bring to the table that our beloved paper books don’t? The most notable difference is the shear amount of books the Kindle can hold, 1,400 to be exact. Carrying that many tangible books around would be not only very tiresome but logistically challenging. Going on any holidays? Travelling a lot? No room for a book case? The Kindle may ease your day to day life. If however you do none of the above, or only read a book or two on holiday this function isn’t much use. The next notable function would have to the size and weight of it. The fits in your pocket making it extremely easy to carry, slotting into your handbag, rucksack or hand. It can be operated by one hand which is extremely useful of you’re on the tube, train or beach holding a sangria. Weighing only 170 grams you’ll barely notice it in your hand which can be the down fall of holding a heavy paper book for some time. Other key features are the E Ink display, reads like paper, Wi-Fi and the shear amount of talented self published authors who either haven’t had time to go through the official channels to get it published or have been over looked by publishers. To conclude paper books are amazing and hopefully will keep being produced for many years to come, I’m sure we’ll all agree walking into a book store or buying from Amazon and getting it in the post opening it up and smelling that fresh book smell is something the Kindle will never have. However the Kindle definitely has a place and purpose in our lives, not as a full time replacement for paper books but a key role none the less. So enjoy both for the benefits they have to offer, and more importantly enjoy reading. Period! Stuart – Founder of http://www.ultimatequote.co.uk (The Home of Inspiration)

An environmental services firm based near Eastbourne is urging businesses and homeowners to get their septic tanks emptied regularly.

The warning follows a spate of emergency calls from wedding venues who suddenly realised their septic tanks were full and creating nasty smells.

CountyClean Environmental Services Commercial Director Darren Baldwin explained: "Sewage smells can ruin an event, not to mention the health and environmental hazards that can arise if people let their septic tanks overflow. We have been extremely busy lately because people have not scheduled regular emptying and have ended up paying extra charges for emergency call outs."

But it's not just business premises that need to plan ahead, stresses Darren, many homes in rural areas don't have mains drainage.

"We're optimistic that the warm weather will return so, if you have a septic tank at home now is the time to get it emptied. When you have family or friends over for a BBQ, the last thing you want is smells drifting from your septic tank. Also, it's a good idea to have your tank emptied while the ground is still fairly dry. People should also have their septic tanks regularly cleaned to keep them working safely and effectively."

CountyClean Environmental Services www.countycleanenvironmental.co.uk specialises in helping customers ranging from domestic premises to blue-chip companies with their waste management needs.

CountyClean Environmental Services also assists with disasters such as oil, diesel or chemical spills and emergency flood response. Non-emergency services include interceptor and gully cleaning, fly-tipped waste removal, graffiti clean-up and sewage removal from ships to portable toilets at festivals. The company employs a team of 26 staff who are committed to safeguarding the environment.
