More than half of British brides would be happy to buy their wedding dress from a charity shop, according to latest research.

A poll by charity shopping website easyfundraising.org.uk revealed 52% of brides would opt for a charity shop gown, compared with 38% who prefer new. 7% of brides jokingly say they would go for the charity option as long as it wasn’t the dress they had donated. Chartered financial planner Ralph Pettengell, of IFA Consulting LLP, says: “With the average wedding costing £21,000 it’s sensible to try to cut your cloth accordingly. A wedding dress is just for one day; the money would be better invested for the couple’s future.”
