Press Release: Netitude links world’s Literati and Twitterati at Hay Festival 2014

Frome, Somerset UK 20th May 2014 For Immediate Release

West country based Netitude are supplying Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the 2014 Hay Literature Festival with multiple satellite broadband links and industry leading technology. For the first time BBC multi-channel programs and world news broadcasts at the event mean Netitude have to meet ever higher demands for fast communication and social media links amongst presenters, audiences, friends and colleagues around the world. Netitude Managing Director, Adam Harling, said “We were delighted to be asked to provide Wi-Fi technology for such a prestigious event. Knowing that Hay’s new President, Stephen Fry, has nearly 7 million Twitter followers, meant this would be a major challenge”.

Described as a ‘digital black hole’, the festival site is in a beautiful, but remote, location many miles from any broadband links robust enough to deal with the high demands of the event. Netitude had only a few days for site checks and technical design, and then the race was on to commission satellite links and configure equipment.
Netitude’s innovative design leverages multiple satellite upload and download links to service 700-800 simultaneous users located anywhere on the 40 acre site with Free access to four separate networks. The weatherproof equipment can be monitored live from Netitude’s Frome office or onsite, with bandwidth capacities reconfigured as required.

“At the end it all went together as planned” said Nathan Charles, Technical Sales Manager, “In less than 24 hours Netitude can deploy high-capacity networks in even the remotest places and with very wide area coverage.”

With Stephen Fry at the helm, the 2014 Hay Festival has an outstanding line up of over 100 leading authors, poets, musicians, actors and comedians, including Sebastian Faulks, Benedict Cumberbatch and Dame Judi Dench. Described by former US President Bill Clinton as “the Woodstock of the mind”, up to 250,000 visitors attend the 10 day event.

Netitude Limited, established in Frome in 2001, provides a wide range of IT services and support to major businesses across the South West UK. In addition Netitude provides specialist broadband, Wi-Fi and audio visual systems to leading Hospitality and Event venues throughout the UK.
