London's Smallest Riding School Takes Part in World's Largest Charity Ride

Posted 2nd February 2010.

Park Lane Stables in Teddington is taking on the mammoth challenge of joining the largest ever horse riding event, which will see over 2000 horse ride from the famous Ascot race course on Saturday 10th July 2010.

Park Lane Stables is a unique yard; its probably the smallest riding school in London, located in the middle of a residential street in Teddington. What Park Lane Stables does offer is a really friendly and unique riding experience with all lessons taking place in Royal Bushy Park, which is just moments away from the stables.

Were a special yard says Natalie the manager. "and we wanted to support a really special charity. Weve taken part local community events such as Teddington Christmas Lights! and the Summer Village Fete, but we wanted to do more to help raise money and the profile of Help for Heroes. When we heard about the Horse for Heroes Ascot Charity Ride we though it would be the perfect event for us to get involved in!

"I heard about Help for Heroes through a friend of the stables last year," Natalie explained. "I thought it was a really worthwhile cause. Whilst were busy getting on with our everyday lives the men and women in our armed forces are putting their lives at risk. Many of them are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan seriously injured and the charity is there to help them and their families to cope with their injuries

"The service men and women have done so much for us, now it’s time we did something for them."

The charity is currently trying to raise 10 million pounds to open Personnel Recovery Centres around the UK. The centres will help service personnel to make the swiftest possible return to duty, or smoothest transition to an appropriately skilled and supported civilian life. They will be made available for seriously wounded, injured, or long-term sick service personnel.

The stables are entering three horses in to the event and have set themselves a minimum target of £1,500 but with the help of the local community the stables hopes to raise even more.

"Our regulars at the yard have been very generous and I hope other people in the town will sponsor us if they can," said Natalie. "Even a few pounds will make a huge difference and mean that Help for Heroes can continue their invaluable work supporting our brave service men and women and their families."

You can sponsor the Park Lane Stables team by visiting their online fundraising page on www.justgiving.com/parklanestables.
