A survey has suggested that deprived areas such as part of Manchester and Liverpool have five times the amount of fast food outlets compared to affluent areas such as where educogym Canary Wharf are based.
The Public Health of England (PHE) compared the deprivation of areas to the amount of fast food outlets such as chicken shops, pizza stores and dessert restaurants. “The PHE wants local authorities to refuse applications for new take aways, especially in areas near to schools, as it has been found that children who walk past fast food shops on the way home from school are more likely to eat unhealthily. At educogym Canary Wharf we take all areas of health and nutrition very seriously, especially when it comes to protecting children and educating them in nutrition” explained Orlstyne Wilson, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer.
The PHE is said to also be encourage authorities to take action on current small businesses asnd ask them to provide healthier options. “I think its fantastic, for both children and adults to be able to make healthier choices, even in this day and age the most common menu option for a ‘kids menu’, and to think of it, most adult men us too, is a burger and chips. Its not healthy, its not balanced, and yet is on a huge percentage of menus in the UK. Kids don’t even have a chance to be a healthy weight when every meal they asre offered comes with chips” stated Godfrey Nurse, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer.
The survey overall indiciated that 17% of fast food outlets where in deprived areas versus 3% in the more affluent, that is a huge comparison and you can see why things need to change. “Of course in the poorer areas, cheap andf tasty meals like fish and chips may seem like a great way to feed a family, and with so many options close by in the more deprived areas it is no wonder the children are obese by 11 years old, the PHE is very right to have done this survey and local authorities need to get involved to help end this obesity epidemic!” argued Orlstyne Wilson, educogym Canary Wharf personal trainer.
