Posted 26th November 2019.

DocMode, a global medical learning platform, has launched a continued e-learning course to practising and resident cardiologists to aid them in diagnosing and treating Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). In short, ACS describes a range of conditions associated with sudden, reduced blood flow to the heart.

“The target participants are MBBS and MD doctors and who have done their post-graduation in cardiology as well as cardiology residents. They would learn about clinical entities which constitute acute coronary syndromes; prognosis and diagnostic methods and comprehensive management including pharmacological therapy and the role of revascularization,” said Hans Lewis, Founder and CEO, DocMode.

Understanding the many ways of clinical presentation enables treating physicians to ask for correct diagnostic tests for ACS. These in turn determine steps that need to be taken, the urgency with which one should approach a patient and eventually leading to long-term prognosis and treatment.

“In cases like acute coronary syndrome that is a medical emergency, introduction of related courses is of great importance to cardiologists. Comprehensive awareness and constant growth are inevitable factors that need to be given due attention,” said Samir Kapadia, MD, Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic, whose heart program ranks number one in the United States by U.S. News & World Report for the 25th consecutive year.

This course will discuss in detail ACS and will consist of presentations of modules by Cleveland Clinic cardiologists, who are experts in their fields. For easy understanding, each module will have a topic with subheadings. Case examples will be presented to emphasise clinical relevance of the discussion. There will be questions on the topic with answers provided later.

“Our endeavours are to provide comprehensive online learning access for cardiologists who are focussing to stay abreast on the diagnosis and treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome, said Paulson Paul, Founder and COO, DocMode.

There are also other courses in the pipeline that would focus on pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. On completion of the course, learners will have to pass MCQ to obtain a certificate from Cleveland Clinic.

Currently, Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) have become the leading cause of mortality in India. About 2.8 million people die of various heart problems and the number is expected to rise to an alarming 23 million by 2030! Early diagnosis, prompt and appropriate management have undoubtedly a dramatic impact on outcome and long-term prognosis. Otherwise, patients are faced with the prospect of early demise, compromised left ventricular function or complex ventricular arrhythmias.
