Come and Sing English Choral Classics in Cheltenham on October 14th

Cheltenham Bach Choir

Posted 27th September 2017.

English choral classics are the theme of the Cheltenham Bach Choir’s next “Come and Sing” event, which is being held on Saturday 14th October 2017. These popular one-day choral workshops are open to local singers of all singing abilities, and give participants the opportunity to rehearse a selection of well-known choral works. This year’s workshop will include music by many of the great English composers – Elgar, Stanford, Parry, Vaughan Williams and Tavener amongst others. It is being held at Christchurch on Malvern Road in Cheltenham from 10 am to 4 pm, and will be directed by David Crown, Music Director of the Cheltenham Bach Choir (CBC).

For those who might be interested in joining the CBC these “Come and Sing” events also provide an excellent opportunity to meet choir members, and to get to know the choir. The CBC is a friendly choir with around a hundred members that rehearses on Tuesday evenings and performs four concerts a year at venues in and around Cheltenham. This year’s programme includes the Brahms’ Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s B minor Mass, as well an evening of musicals!

David Crown said “Come and join us on Saturday 14th October for what promises to be a hugely enjoyable day as we rehearse some of the very best of English choral music, building to an informal ‘sing through’ before we finish.
Much of this music has graced some of the UK’s greatest State occasions, notably Parry’s monumental ‘I Was Glad’ and John Tavener’s haunting ‘Song for Athene’, performed so memorably at Princess Diana’s funeral twenty years ago.
So do come along – you never know, you might end up joining us permanently! And we’d be delighted if you did.”
