During one of the coldest winters in modern day history, potholes have caused increased damage to tyres, exhausts and tracking systems with many drivers paying the ultimate price of losing out on extensive no-claims discounts that had been built up over a number of years.
Swinton car insurance development manager, Steve Chelton, said: "Many of these accidents were the result of drivers momentarily losing control of their vehicle in an attempt to avoid a pothole and crashing into another vehicle.
"There has also been an increase in maintenance costs to drivers as they pay out to fix damaged wheels and exhausts, something which is likely to have fallen within the excess of their car insurance policy."
The AA insurance has also published figures this week regarding pothole damage, with figures of car insurance claims due to potholes rising a mind-blowing 600% in the last three years.
