CADARN launches “Lights, Camera, Education!” app

The CADARN Learning Portal

Posted 3rd June 2017.

A comprehensive guide to video production tailored for education

CADARN, which supports and stimulates the production of online and open educational resources, celebrates the launch of its new free online course and beginner’s guide to making educational media, available as an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.ac.cadarn.lce through Google play. The app covers all aspects of video based educational media creation beginning with developing your concept, through to understanding how to use media production equipment, editing and distributing your content.

40 focused multimedia lessons, packed with information and helpful resources, cover topics ranging from how visuals communicate meaning to what you should consider when choosing a filming location. Users can interact with other learners, mark progress and upon completion gain an Open Badge* demonstrating their professional achievement.

Tom Bartlett, Project Manager, The CADARN Learning Portal, said: “Since 2013, we have worked with our partners and developed a comprehensive online portal which encourages and facilitates the production of educational media. This app is the next step in that provision and will provide an efficient, portable way for teaching staff to access key information and create engaging educational content.”

Kate Wright, E-learning Group Manager for Aberystwyth University says “The “Lights, Camera, Education!” app is a comprehensive guide for staff wishing to create educational media. As well as providing technical information it gives a wealth of advice on the crucial aspects of planning and organisation needed before filming starts. The app would be a good starting point for anyone interested in making their own videos for teaching and learning.”

*Open Badges are visual tokens of achievement, affiliation, authorization, or other trust relationship sharable across the web. They can contribute to an evolving picture of a person’s lifelong learning and professional development.
