Theres always an app for that isn't there??

A new iPhone app has been launched to help Londoners and tourists to know the approximate cost and duration of their taxi journey before they get in the cab. Developed by Tim Edwards and Stephen Knox, the London Taxi app will estimate the fare, time and route for your taxi trips around London, taking into account expected traffic congestion.

There are hundreds of London specific apps available covering everything from "Toiluxe" (a luxury toilet finder) to a tour of the National Gallery, with transport being a particularly popular area. London transport apps include "Tube Exits" (which tells you which carriage to board to ensure you avoid the usual scrum to get out of the tube station) and the more conventional "London Bus" (actually a guide to most forms of transport).

It seems odd that none of these products relate to one of London’s most iconic modes of transport, the taxi, hence the launch of this app. While there are taxi calculators available for other cities, including Madrid and Hong Kong, and some that claim to work worldwide, the creators believe this is the first iPhone app that takes account of the notorious London traffic congestion, which can affect fares.

Designed to support the use of black cabs by helping people make informed choices, having this handy app avoids the traditional late night ATM stop on the way home. This app is a great addition to any commuter or tourists iPhone.

Half A Million Homeowners In The UK Can't Sell Their Property

Around 600,000 people are trapped in their property because they can’t sell it for the price they want. And according to the same research, the people most likely to be hit are people over 55 who may already have paid off most or all of their mortgage but can’t find a buyer. The poll was carried out by Unbiased.co.uk, the professional advice website, and shows a massive increase in the number of people trapped in their properties over the past five years. Despite reports of rising property prices, the market remains nervous.

We have lived in our home for nearly 30 years, says Mrs J of Hounslow. A few years ago we decided to relocate to Spain to retire. We knew that house prices were falling and put our house on the market at what we thought was a realistic price. In the past two years we’ve dropped the price twice. We’ve made it clear that we are open to offers. One sale fell through when the buyer couldn’t get a mortgage. Another fell through when the buyer was unexpectedly made redundant before we had exchanged. We feel that our home is a good investment but people seem to be over cautious.

Sell Today was able to help Mrs J and her husband to sell their house, free up the equity and make the move to Malaga that they had planned.

The current climate means that people who might otherwise have moved up the property ladder are staying put and adopting a wait-and-see stance, says Sell Today’s Amanda Hoyles. It means that more and more people are stuck where they are and can’t move on. It’s not a great situation to be in, but at least it is one where we can be of help.

For nearly eight years Sell Today has been buying properties for cash, allowing owners to free up their equity quickly and move on.

We were amazed that the sale went through so fast, says Mrs J. It was around a month from the first phone call to the actual sale, when the money appeared in our bank account. And we were able to stay an extra week while everything was packed and shipped over to our new home in Malaga. It wasn’t what we had planned but the offer was fair and Sell Today paid all the legal fees. What’s more we didn’t have another English winter eating up our money on heating bills.

Body Odour Is The Top Turn-Off For 43% Of Singles This Valentine's Day.

Love may be in the air, but there is a fine line between a musky aroma and a musty odour. In a recent study by Smooch.com, body odour beats unemployment, weight and oral hygiene to top the list of biggest turn-offs.

Free online dating website Smooch.com asked over 17,000 members what was the biggest turn-off in a potential partner; just under half (43%) of the single men and women said that body odour was the biggest turn-off when looking for love.

Singles looking for a Valentine’s day smooch rated bad oral hygiene as the second biggest turn-off. 32% of members said bad oral hygiene was the biggest turn-off; this was almost double the amount of those who felt excess weight was the biggest turn-off (17%).

The fourth biggest turn-off was unemployment (6%) whilst being underweight was only problematic for 2% of members.

It seems that men are still expected to bring home the bacon as women were twice as likely as men to say unemployment was the biggest turn-off. Women were also more likely than men to say body odour and poor oral hygiene were the biggest turn off.

On the other hand, nearly a quarter of the men surveyed (24%) said that excess weight was the biggest turn-off compared to just 9% of women. However, men were also twice as likely as women to say and underweight partner was the biggest turn-off.

Additional information:
Smooch surveys are extremely detailed, incorporating information about its respondents as detailed as facial hair and weight, allowing us to unearth the following strange facts:

* People who wear glasses are more likely than those who dont to find body odour the biggest turn-off possibly a heightened sense of smell compensates for impaired vision.
* Members who were looking for marriage online were more than three times as likely to find unemployment the biggest turn-off compared to those looking for friendship.
* Men with a pungent aroma should head towards Barnet where only 14% of women found body odour a turn-off
* Unsurprisingly, heavy smokers were the least likely to be turned off by bad oral hygiene (28%)
* Vegans were twice as likely as vegetarians to find an underweight partner the biggest turn-off.

Asthma UK is the perfect partner for carpet & upholstery cleaning specialists Chem-Dry

Professional carpet & upholstery cleaning and disaster restoration specialists Chem-Dry aim to raise the bar and really make a difference for asthma sufferers this year, after announcing Asthma UK as their chosen Charity of the Year for 2010. Chem-Dry franchisees up and down the country aim to help raise significant funds through a range of fundraising initiatives and activities during 2010.

In 2010, Chem-Dry is proud to be supporting Asthma UK, the national charity dedicated to helping the one in five households affected by asthma. Most people will know someone with asthma, but many people dont realise that this condition is serious and claims three lives in the UK every day. In fact, more people die each year of asthma than cervical cancer and testicular cancer combined and sadly many adults and children with severe asthma face frequent hospital visits or can be stuck in their own homes, trapped by breathlessness.

Asthma UK provides support and advice to all people affected by asthma, through a range of projects, dedicated research and services. These can include specialised holidays for children with asthma and a popular Adviceline staffed by asthma nurse specialists.

Neil Churchill, Chief Executive of Asthma UK says: We are really excited about our brand new partnership with Chem-Dry in 2010 and look forward to working with their staff, franchises and customers to make a real difference for people with asthma and maintain vital services such as our Adviceline.

Mark Richardson, Marketing Executive, Chem-Dry Franchising, comments We believe this partnership is a perfect fit for our national network of franchise businesses. Throughout 2010 we will be organising some special events and activities in an effort to raise awareness of asthma and hopefully generate lots of funds for this worthwhile cause. There is little doubt a fair majority of the population will have some personal experiences of asthma and are likely to have a family member who suffers badly from the related symptoms. We intend to build a good working relationship with Asthma UK and hope this partnership will run beyond 2010.

St Valentine's Day London car parking problems solved

PRESS RELEASE

With a 24 hour tube strike set to hit on St Valentines Day February 14 2010, there isnt a lot of love for either LUL or the RMT from Londons hard pressed commuters. With the prospect of travel chaos at the weekend and start of the week, many people planning Valentines Day celebrations might be forced to put their plans on hold. But not customers of 247 Parking.

We were planning to go out for a romantic night the day after Valentines Day. Weve had a baby sitter arranged for weeks. We werent about to let anything spoil this. We know that parking is going to be chaotic on Sunday and Monday, says Emma Morgan, of Brighton. Fortunately I have a parking space reserved in the West End where I work. It means that my partner and I can enjoy a night out on Monday to celebrate Valentines Day without worrying about tickets or struggling back to Victoria to catch the over crowded and unreliable last train home. Were having a meal at Hakkasan, our favourite Chinese restaurant, before going to see Legally Blonde at the Savoy Theatre.

Chris Fowler lives in Redcar, drives into London every day and has a space reserved near his office on Euston Road.

It has worked out brilliantly for me and my partner. When we heard about the strike we were initially a bit anxious. Weve had tickets for Babyshambles at Koko for weeks and Im so relieved that we dont have to worry about leaving the car. All were worried about now is whether or not Pete Doherty will actually turn up to play the gig.

And one customer that just HAS to find a space on Sunday is Dan Lane of Rochester, Kent.

Even at weekends parking can be a problem. Ive had tickets when Ive parked in places that I was certain were free parking zones. And despite traffic being quieter, Ive still driven for ages around Chelsea looking for a safe place to leave the car. Sometimes as much as an hour!
Im planning to propose this week. Given the things Im going to have to worry about from now on, at least turning up late at my girlfriends flat because I couldnt find a parking space isnt one of them!

247 Parking wishes Dan well and hopes that he gets the right answer when he pops the question.

Mobile Phones – Orange & T-Mobile Merger Delayed by Investigation

This week the Office of Trading (OFT) has encouraged the European Commission to investigate the potential merger as it had the probability of significantly reducing the competition in the UK mobile market.

Both and Orange and T-Mobile had initially hoped to complete the amalgamation by the end of this month but mobile phones analysts predict that the true extent of this review could see it put back to as late as December.

Although both companies have revealed that they feel the merger will be good for the industry, James Barford of Enders Analysis believes both companies will have to be prepared to make sacrifices to make the move work.

He said: Our view remains that the Competition Commission investigation is probably going to result in the merged company having to make very significant concessions, with the not insignificant chance of an outright ban.

Consumer groups were also defiant in their stance that serious consideration needed to be made from the European Commission before sanctioning the switch that could have a major impact on competitors.

Peter Vicary-Smith, chief executive of Which? said: "It’s only right that a deal affecting UK consumers should be scrutinised by UK regulators. This merger will clearly have a huge impact on the mobile market, since it will form the biggest mobile operator in the UK and bring the number of networks down to just four."

As yet there are no indications of potential new handsets and mobile phone accessories from the potential amalgamation and the longer this protracted switch drags on the more it will play into the hands of competitors who are continuing to develop the latest smartphones and applications.
